5.0 out of 5 stars Another great album..., 9 Jun. 2005
This review is from: Get Behind Me Satan (Audio CD)
I bought this album after only hearing Blue Orchid and The Nurse, and also because i am a huge White Stripes fan.
The whole album is not dissapointing in the least. There has been doubt previous to the release after Jack White stated that he didn't much use his guitar on the album, but none of these people had heard the album.
Many were put off by Blue Orchid, saying it wasn't "Seven Nation Army", but why would we want to hear an exact replica? Jack wasn't making Seven Nation Army Part 2, it was a new track with a fresh sound.
The White Stripes albums are always slight different; their first, self titled album was ecclectic and noisey, brilliant of course and very very raw. Next up came De Stijl, which sounded quieter than their debut but still as energetic. The lyrics were more mature and the album sounded polished and well made.
Their third album, White Blood Cells was the most "studio-sounding", it featured excellent lyrics and a more folky background.
The big one was Elephant, made in about three weeks this album was a sweet mix of bluesy guitar and quiet, moving songs and of course Seven Nation army.
Their new album, Get Behind Me Satan is probably the most experimental, with the introduction of the Marimba as a prominent instrument (a sort of giant Xylaphone)and more piano than guitar; the album is almost shocking by the way it has been stripped down. The first song Blue Orchid is fantastic and feels very Stripesy, next up is The Nurse, our introduciton to Jack on the Marimba, this song is also very good, the lyrics and rhythm are excellent.
Next is My Doorbell, sounding very fifties and with a catchy tune this is probably their most releasable track after the single out now.
Forever for her (is over for me) is a song on the piano, very nice.
Little ghost, a folky song with some great harmonies.
The Denial twist, fantastic, ecclectic and brilliant!
White moon is chilled out and calm.
Instinct blues is another of the quiet ones, with a bit of guitar, also good.
Passive Manipualtion, short and sweet, sung by Meg, but her voice sounds weaker than cold cold night on Elephant.
Take take take is guitar and rock all the way, fabulous.
As ugly as i seem is sweet and quite quiet.
Red Rain is bizarre and brilliant!
I'm lonely, a good closing track very nice.
This album is definately worth buying given time will become a favourite. BUY IT!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Another excellent Korean film., 29 Jan. 2005
I bought this film whitout actually watching it first, i had read good reviews of it and was intruiged by the story.
The film is excellent and has a slightly sinister tone to it, the story line is a little confusing but is pretty easy to understand by the end - and a second viewing couldn't harm your understanding.
The horror in it is very much like a mish-mash of both Ringu and Ju-On:The Grudge, it's not terrifying but it's not nice either, it has some extremely creepy scenes which made me chill a bit.
BUT the horror is not really the main part of the story, it's about how terrifying isolation can be and what it does to us.
I would recommend this film to everyone who is interested in Asian cinema and also to people who are new to it, it is a fantascially creepy film with a beautiful set and great acting. A truly first class Asian movie.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another great album., 12 Sept. 2004
This review is from: More Adventurous (Audio CD)
As a dedicated fan of Rilo Kiley i was deeply anticipating the release of their third album. I ordered it after not hearing any of the songs.
The songs all have the familiar sound, the cool and beautiful voice of Jenny Lewis and the brilliant guitar of Blake Sennett. Rilo Kiley do of course have their own unique style and sound, and in this album they stick (almost) to it.
The album has two surprising tracks, firstly "Ripchord", a song similar in style to the snippets of "How i choose to remember it" that you hear between the tracks one second album "The execution of all things". Secondly "I Never" A very surprising style for the band, a sassy soul song with Lewis' beautiful voice at it's most powerful, not my favourate track but is worth a listen.
The top two tracks on the album are "Portions for foxes" a classic Rilo Kiley song in their typical style. Then there's "Man/me/them/Jim" a song with a story, i love this track, the guitar is amazing and the story is kind of funny.
All in all this album is an excellent piece of work, from one the most underrated and unheard of great bands off all time. Buy it today.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best series of the best show., 19 Mar. 2004
Series 3 is an amazing series, the characters all take incredible blows. Some even fatal.
Everything changes in series 3, the characters develop more and they all cope with the hardest things. But in the midst of it alll Alan Ball stil manages to maintain the steady pace and evenly balanced comedy of the show. There are some incredibly funny moments, for example in the last episode of the season he uses a very strong contrast between what happening to one person and what is happening to another.
This series shows Alan Ball and all of the actors prove how amazing they are (Frances Conroy and Peter Kraus, excell themselves).
The best show on TV gets better with everyseries and this one is amazing. Buy it now.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best show on TV!!, 9 Mar. 2004
I have the series one DVD and it is a amazing. Series two is an awesome series and the DVD is a must have.
All of the characters change, some for better and some for worse.
David becomes more comfortable with his sexuality.
Nate has a rough time with Brenda.
Ruth has a mixed time.
Claire becomes more mature.
The best charachter is Ruth, she is in need of love and desperate to find companionship.
This series is a great follow up to series 1, series 3 is even better! Can't wait for that one either.

5.0 out of 5 stars An amazing album by a brilliant, underrated band., 2 Mar. 2004
I heard the song 'The execution of all things' on a cd which came free with a magazine, it was the only song on the cd that stuck out.
So, i bought the songs single and loved the two b-sides that came with the song, finally i bought the album and was blown away. The songs on it are all amazing and i love Jenny Lewis' voice, paints peeling, a better son/daughter, with arms outstreched are all some of my favourites, but every song has it's own place.
The lyrics for each are all incredibly deep and clever, the tunes are equally as amazing.
All in all this album is one of the best in my ever-growing collection, it is VASTLY underrated. Buy it now and open your eyes.
Hail to whatever you found in the sunlight that surrounds you.

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent album with lots of great tracks., 20 Nov. 2003
This review is from: Try This [CD + DVD] (Audio CD)
This new albbum is in many ways Pinks best, it is a rock album where as M!ssundaztood was hinting more towards a pop-rnb theme.
This album takes a few listens to get used to but eventually many of it's tracks stand out.
Even though Pink shows her self as a hardcore rocker it is still mildly shocking to hear her swearing nearly every other track, even on M!ssundaztood it was cut out until the UK bonus track but, The F-word has never sounded so good! Pink has produced a very good album, which is also her personal favourate and she said that she wants to stay within the Rock genre, after having played around in many different ones in Take Me Home and
The bonus DVD is short but shows us a bit of how Pink lives and the uncut version of the Trouble video.
I suggest that you buy this album and i warn you, It will stay in your head for ages. BUY IT NOW

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent., 20 Oct. 2003
This review is from: Kill Bill Vol. 1 (Audio CD)
I bought this sound-track before i saw the movie and i thought it was good, but now that i have seen the film i think the sound track is a million ties better, when you hear it before seeing the film you think that the songs are just that, songs. But once you have seen it and then listen the tracks mean SO much more!
Each one evokes a memory of the film (of which there are endless)
and it is very powerful.
Each track has a reason for being there but only by watching the film can one un-lock these reasons, after that it's all excellent!
Track one is the most memerable as it is played i think three times in the film and therefore is almost the key track. The two dialogue exerpts are vey cool and, again, after having seen the filmhave a more powerful effect on ones feeling towards that exerpt. The last bunch of tracks are wierd at first, but as I keep on saying once you have seen the film you remember 'Oh this was from that fight' and 'Thats what that noise was for!'
Basically it is an amazing soundtrack with 50 times the value after having seen the film. BUY IT.

5.0 out of 5 stars A brilliant series., 4 Jun. 2003
This progamme is the one thing that gives my life meaning.
The storyline is very compelling, moving, funny and exciting. The actors all seem to be very family like, Claire and Ruth look the same slightly.
David has some of the best moments, they are really funny. But Claire is my favourite. All the characters are so great. I love the show!!!
Buy this DVD.
