5.0 out of 5 stars Hope for music, 28 July 2005
This review is from: The Lost Riots (Audio CD)
I'm a big fan of GYBE and Explosions in the Sky and admit Hope of the States do borrow a lot from what makes these bands extraordinary, however that's not the point. This is an exceptional debut album that borrows from others' strengths and mixes it with the bands undoubted talent. Black Dollar Bills remains head and shoulders above anything else on the album, this song is simple apocalyptic excellence, while waiting after the last song has run 10 minutes brings a 'secret track' which also takes the album to a new level. In conclusion, this is a fantastically diverse album from a band with a lot of potential. Second album....

5.0 out of 5 stars Rap at the mo' is the eminem show, 30 May 2003
This review is from: The Eminem Show (Audio CD)
This album is the best rap album to come out in years full stop. While most of raps current big players are still (yawn!!!) caught up in their own hype - that is the playboy lifestyles, the big cars and everything else they appear to have - Eminem keeps his message strong and thoughtful. Sure he still raps about wacky things and sticks to the formula of one album, one commercial pop-ish song, but who cares? - it just adds to the diversity of the album, with dre's beats flowing without repitition.
The album kicks off with a eerie intro, the goes full blast into White America, which basically picks apart the rap industry, racism, government, etc the way only em can. Other songs look at his relationship with his mum (cleaning out my closet), life raising his daughter (say goodbye 2 hollywood) and personal beef with others (say what u say -JD). There's no reason to name favourite songs - just when one becomes a favourite, the next starts up and so on....
Personal highlights include the bass thumping til I collapse and the clever rhymes of say goodbye to hollywood. This album must be in everybodies collection!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Definitive Album, 19 April 2003
This review is from: Magical Mystery Tour (Audio CD)
This album can only be described as the best Beatles album ever!!! Each song (bar Flying) is a masterpiece in its own right with the happy anthems 'All you need is love' and 'Penny Lane' to the more psychedelic 'I am the Walrus' and 'Strawberry Fields'. Each song is so different, yet they blend in superbly. The defining moment on this album has to be Hello Goodbye. The Beatles have made many classic songs but this track is just unbelieveable - many, many listens later! This for me is how the Beatles should be; creative, inspirational and very catchy.
Possibly the best music album ever created....

CAN ONLY BE FIVE STARS*****
Yet another fantastic Beatles release, not containing all of the Beatles best work, but then again that's not the point! This CD is basically a timeline of the Beatles greatest chart successes from 1963-70 (Love me do-long and winding road)and the fact that this collection is arguably not their best work shows just how fab the fab four were.
I first got into the Beatles back in 1994 while listening to a friends dad's collection and was instantly hooked. I never realised how many songs I actually knew beforehand - most of which appear on this collection. This CD gives listeners a great overview of the the Beatles career and therefore what albums they might like most (if not all). The only advice is to BUY IT!!!!!.....and then quickly buy all of the others, you won't be disappointed!!!!!!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Magical mystery CD, 3 April 2003
This review is from: Magical Mystery Tour (Audio CD)
WOW. What a fantastic CD!!! This was the first Beatles album I bought and it is still the best. At a time when the Beatles were indulging in free love and recreational activities, they were producing the best music the band has ever composed.
Magical Mystery Tour starts the ball rolling with an infectious beat and melody, followed by the slower more thoughtful Fool on the Hill (exceptional). The next 2 tracks (Flying and Blue Jay Way) are OK but pale in comparison to the rest of the album. Other Beatles albums would probably top my list of GREATEST OF ALL if it wasn't for song No. 7. Hello Goodbye is without doubt the best song the beatles have ever recorded. After (very) many listens it is still as fresh as ever.
Your Mother Should Know, I am the Walrus, Strawberry Fields, Penny Lane, Baby Your a Rich Man and All You Need is Love make up what is a very creative collection of songs. How many bands were inspired by M.M.T.????????
ALL YOU NEED IS THIS!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Introduction to the fab 4, 3 April 2003
This review is from: The Beatles: 1 (Audio CD)
This CD is simply a fantastic introduction to the Beatles. It was never meant to be a collection of the Beatles greatest work, but rather like Echoes by Pink Floyd, it is an index of what the Beatles were doing at different times in their musical history. This CD gives listeners an idea of what Beatles era of music they like (if not all, of course!!!) and therefore what albums to buy.
For me, this is a fabulous introduction to the Beatles and also a great addition to any Beatles collection. Enjoy!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Genius for Floydies, 25 Dec. 2002
This film can be seen as two separate entities - as a film in its own right and as an extended music DVD. As a film it is flawed. The film is beautifully shot but the story is often incoherent. This should mean that this film is not worth considering.......wrong!
Seen in its true light, as a visual interpretation of The Wall, it is fantastic. Every moment visually fits the music exactly. So much so that it is hard to figure out whether the music was composed for the film or vice versa.
Every Pink Floyd fan should own this classic, though anybody who has no real interest in Floyd should stay well clear - the film does not stand up on its own.
