5.0 out of 5 stars Which Tablet to Buy?, 5 July 2014
So is this better than an iPad or iPad Air? I have all 3 - due to family.

First impressions, a tad heavy but as thin as you might want. Feels good quality. The back is hard white plastic but has a leather like grain so is pleasing to hold. The Air though is easier to hold as a book. The Samsung needs to be propped due to its extra weight.

The device is not slow but is not quite as quick to open some web pages and has around a 0.5 sec lag compared to the Air. This is not true on all sites but is there on some when competing head to head with the Air. According to tests, the Samsung has more processing power.

The screen is excellent. There is not much difference compared to the Air other than the obvious, which is that you can get more on the screen or have larger text, etc. As my eyes are not as good as they were this is a benefit. The Samsung is of course inherently less portable due to it's larger size.

Speakers are stereo and slightly louder than the Air however the Air speaker has more frequency range so sounds slightly better quality although neither device are close to ' hi fi'.

The range of apps is good including free 'ms office' type apps.

The storage is better on the Samsung as mine came with 32gb and it is easy to add more using a micro sd card, which are cheap these days. You just slot it in the side. In my opinion Apple rip their customers off when it comes to memory.

Can use Adobe products such as flash which makes the Samsung somewhat more versatile.

The pen is a nice touch. It slots into the side of the tablet. It is a fun and useful tool. Drawing app is great for the more artistically minded.

Can't comment on cameras yet.

So which is best? The answer depends on what you want to do with your tablet. Objectively the Samsung is better, however if portability is your key consideration the Air would probably suit your needs better.

Have had this nearly a year now.

It comes on almost instantly although as with all of these it does get about 30% brighter over the next minute.

It provides a somewhat warmish light. Not white but not yellow so a good compromise.

The best thing about this unit is its length as it is fairly short for a 30w lamp and this can be important if your light fitting has limited space or you do not want the lamp to stick out of it.

These are good stock bedside alarm/radio clock units. Fairly easy to use with a nice clear read out. You will probably not do better. Sony do one with a double alarm that can be set separately to trigger either the radio or alarm per alarm but this model is quite enough for most people.

Looks great and everything you would expect by the chain goes rusty. I suppose spraying it with oil or water repellent before fitting might have helped.

These seals work well as they grip the aluminium and then two little prongs engage with the glass or Perspex for a good double seal. I discovered Perspex is more or less the same price as glass so have used that on the exposed side of my greenhouse so balls are less likely to break it and kids are less likely to get cut by broken glass.

My aluminium is about 1mm thick.

These grips are exactly the same as the shop variety. They are soft and grippy. They come with a slanted cut one end to start the spiral and some tape to hold the other end that you cut to suit.

I found that with badminton rackets I can actually do 2 rackets with one grip although only just.

This was very well packed and sealed. It is a very good standard hard drive ideal for adding capacity or for a new build. You can get bigger drives but I think those are probably a mistake if you have space to add more like this.

Don't forget cables.

If you are wealthy by SSDs if not buy these. Don't forget one option is you can buy a smaller SSD for a relatively modest sum. Put your operating system and key programs on that to enjoy the speed and then supplement that with one or two of these for bulk storage of photos, music, etc.

These are good value curtains. The colour can be described as purple as well as plum.

They are not lined however they thoroughly exclude light.

They have a slight shine, not shiny but not definitely not matt.

In my view they look much more expensive than they actually are. The colour is quite dark so you will need to decide whether that suits your room.

I heard somewhere that premier inn go for lilac and purples because this colour aids sleep so that could be a bonus if used in a bedroom.

This is a really good fan at an excellent price. It would suit most builds but is probably best suited to a fairly high performance rig that needs a little more air through it to keep it cool. Yes you can hear the fans but in my experience you simply cannot have a good air flow unless the fan noise can be heard. I have tried quitter fans and for a lower power rig, not used for gaming then yes they work fine and are quieter but they are no good for gaming rigs.

I notice that artic do a range of fans with sensors. These could be good but don't forget that you can add a fan controller or some motherboards come with a fan controller effectively built in, so no point in buying more expensive versions of this if you don't need them, you can really only use one control mechanism.

The extra blades seem to genuinely move more air. There are fans that are quieter that move less air and fans than run at higher RPM that drive even more air however this fan seems a good performance fan at a low price.

It has a quality feel and comes with 4 fixing screws and a single standard 3 pin connector.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent addition, 1 Jun 2014

Installed this below my graphics card to reduce overheating. It fits well in the PCI slot but depending on your clip you may have to bend or tweak it slightly as with other PCI devices.

It is a little noisy however if you are overclocking and doing lots of gaming you will probably not hear it. Also after extensive experimentation, I have discovered that with fans, the quiet ones tend to move less air whilst the faster, more effective ones tend to be noisier. I think this is a simple inescapable fact of physics. Interfere with more air faster creates more wind noise. In otherwords it is difficult to get a high air flow through your case without generating some noise from the fans. So if you want a powerful set up, it will get hot and you must cool, it so realistically some noise is inevitable.

In terms of comparison with a stock 120mm case fan like my artic Z12's this fan seems to move more air. It means that the warm air from the fans on the graphics card effectively gets exhausted straight out the back whereas in a standard configuration this air would have to go via the main rear exhaust fan or the top of the case. It seems to me that getting the air out of the case directly makes more sense than circulating it over the other components you are trying to keep cool.

Overall a pleasing addition. Personally I am glad I did not go for the more powerful version of this fan as this one moves quite a bit of air and although the more powerful one no doubt move more, I expect it would be a touch more noisy too. So I am happy with this compromise and also if this fan was too powerful I am guessing it might start drawing air down from the CPU fans above and that could be counterproductive.
