5.0 out of 5 stars Super classic film from a golden age!, 9 Jun 2008
A classic film from Ealing Studios focusing on the glorious bygone days of British Railways.
The Titfield railway is up for closure. Mortified, the local community propose to run the railway themselves, competing with the local bus company. Superbly shot in the beautiful West Country in glorious technicolour and with steam trains and the atmosphere of the tranquil branch line galore. A bit strange in places, especially when we are expected to believe a steam engine can run off the rails, however, this is Ealing and nothing should be taken too seriously.
As this film centres around a railway closure, could this have been one of Dr. Beeching's favourites?
First class!!

Lancashire Steam Finale
Lancashire Steam Finale

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent collection of photographs, 25 May 2008
A wonderful book focusing on the closing days of steam on BR around Lancashire.
Each high quality photograph is presented with a detailed account of the location, the train and locomotive within. Many branch lines which bore the brunt of the Beeching axe are featured as well as some more noticeable locations including the West Coast Main Line, Blackpool and the East Lancashire line.
Overall, an accurate account for those of us who were unfortunate enough not able to witness the time when trains WERE trains or those wishing to trot down memory lane!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent value for money!, 13 May 2008
An excellently presented and written book highlighting the most significant rail disasters from the early days of the railways to the present day.
Excellent diagrams, photographs and informative text describing the lead up to the disaster, what went wrong, how it happened, the aftermath and the lessons learned from each accident.
Well worth the money and from amazon's pricing - an even better bargain!

5.0 out of 5 stars Well written and researched!, 7 Jun 2006
This book was highly interesting and enjoyable to read and i could hardly put it down from when i started!

Gordon Suggitt is a fantastic writer and his work is well witten and researched. The chapters were extremely fascinating seeing as i live in lancashire and knowing that there was once a thriving rail network linking every part of the region some 100 years ago!

Highly recommended to those who take an interest in old railways and what remains of them in today's landscapes!

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Phantom treasure!!!, 9 Nov 2005
Having bought the re-release of 'The Phantom of the Opera' on this boxset, it is better than just the normal DVD on its own!
Even though you get the original 2 disc DVD as from before, you can now get both a double disc soundtrack and photo/postcards of stills from the magnificent film!
Plus a beautiful box to house everything in and the all 4 discs come presented in another beautiful second case within with a few images from the film adorning the front and inside!
A true treat for 'phans' and for those who are buying the film on DVD for the first time and all at a great price, much cheaper than buying everything individually!
A truely great purchase for the DVD collection!

5.0 out of 5 stars Another masterpiece from Sergio!!!, 12 Aug 2005
'A fistfull of Dynamite', or 'Duck You Sucker!' as it may be better known as elsewhere ranks among one of Sergio Leone's best pieces of filmaking and as one of the best spaghetti westerns of all time!!!
James Coburn and Rod Steiger provide great onscreen characters whos personalities and backgrounds are beautifully explored in detail set in the backdrop of the Mexican revolution and in particular Coburn's character is explored deeply, enhanced by Leone's supurb use of flashbacks to tell us his story!
With enhanced picture and sound, which is fantastic with explosions abound, this DVD as with Leone's other westerns are worth their weight in gold!
Another great score by Morricone as usual, tops the film off as fantastic!!!
Highly recommended to Spaghetti western and Leone fans!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Another classic from Sergio Leone!, 27 July 2005
What can be said about this classic western?
Outstanding, marvellous...
'Once upon a time in the west' certainly ranks as one of the best spaghetti westerns ever made. After all, with Sergio Leone in the directors chair, what could be bad about it?
From the introduction of Charles Bronsons character at the beginning to the showdown with Henry Fonda at the climax, this is one western which you will remember long after you've seen it!
And to top it all off, another wonderful score from Ennio Morricone with many memorable tunes!!!
A much deserved classic and highly recommended to spaghetti western fans!!!

This review is from: Uncle Buck [DVD] (DVD)
A truely great comedy film of all time! Can it get any better with John Candy as the hugely entertaining bachelor babysitter, Uncle Buck?!
From the witty one-liners by Candy to unforgettable moments: from the car backfiring to Uncle Buck's visit to the school, this film will have you in stitches from start to finish!!!
A fantastic film to see when you need cheering up or when you want a bit of comedy!
Highly recommended!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Ultimate Spaghetti Western!!!, 21 April 2005
What else can be said about this masterpiece than superb, magnificent and wonderful!!!
Being a great fan of Sergio Leone's Clint Eastwood Spaghetti Westerns and having all 3 on the Special Edition DVD's, i find that 'The Good, the Bad and the Ugly' is the one which succeeds the most, although would not be the same without the other 2!
Great music, story, characters and with enhanced picture and sound (especially the gunshots) this certainly lives up to the spirit of Sergio Leone!
A classic!!!
