1.0 out of 5 stars Dumbed down for the Cumberbitches, 26 Mar 2014
The series is completely ruined by the writers to please 13-17 year old girls. The relation between Holmes (That's Sherlock's last name, dear Cumberbitches) and Watson is merely a joke. If it weren't for the same actors, one wouldn't think that this is a sequel to series 1 and 2 of "Sherlock".

Excellent series with real people and and a real story (compared Downton Abbey soap opera). It`s true, it is dark and gloomy sometimes, but that is probably how it was as a farmer in that period. I can`t wait to watch season 2. Please hurry!

2.0 out of 5 stars Too slow, 30 Dec 2013
This review is from: Quartet [DVD] (DVD)
The script lacks real development, the characters make decisions that are not substantiated by foregoing action or inner development. One moment the arrival of Jean Horton is supposed to be living hell for her former hubby, the next moment they chatting on a bench, almost holding hands. What happened in between?

Brilliant acting, beautifully made into film, wonderful music (get the soundtrack here A Single Man (Soundtrack) and a gripping script. In one word: a masterpiece.

This is a film for dark, rainy November day or the equivalent in your soul. I think it has the happiest happy ending of all happy ends.

5.0 out of 5 stars Call the midwives and daughters and watch this!, 7 May 2013

The second series is at least as good as the first one. It's heartwarming and sad at the same time. Call the Midwife proves that one doesn't need gilded picture frames and big estates to make very good television.Tickety-boo and tippity-top.

3.0 out of 5 stars Downer Abbey, 29 Dec 2012

At least Lord Fellows could have made a cliffhanger, now it's only depressing, especially at Christmas. And the rest of CS 2012 is rather unstructured and shallow. Who is interested in the martial crisis of Shrimpie, who we won't see ever again? Try harder next time, Your Lordship. Standards are to be maintained!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent!, 20 Aug 2012
This review is from: Big Money (Paperback)
The ideal book for a warm summer afternoon. The ten pages with Lord Hoddesdon in Valley Fields are priceless. But it is not only funny, it has also a lot of charm and heart. After reading it, one is reconciled with mankind.

This adaptation is a masterpiece and lives up to McEwan's novel. Everyone who has participated in it should be very proud. This film makes the world a better place.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very good!, 12 July 2012

It's a shame that this series was overshadowed by Downton Abbey. I think Upstairs Downstairs 2 is a very good series ( I wouldn't say excellent) with some minor flaws. I like that they kept the polictical theme throughout it. Especially the sequence with the kindertransport was quite heart-touching. Somehow they lost it in episode 3 (I think the weakest of them all). I whish the BBC would continue this. It would be quite interesting to see how they weather the Blitz and rationing; and I want to know what will become of those who are conscripted. After all, that worked well for Downton Abbey. So BBC: pleaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaase!
