1.0 out of 5 stars Money Money Money, 26 Dec. 2012
The beauty and timelessness of Hats and Rooftops is undeniable, however it is incredibly frustrating and disappointing to buy a Collectors Edition with additional music packaged in bland artwork that consists of blank, yes blank pages and a booklet with a handful of photos in it. No information, no history, no liner notes, no lyrics, no obvious input from the band (other than in the mastering process apparently)and not even information on the additional CD of bonus material. One can only assume that money was the driving force behind this release rather than a genuine wish to acknowledge the original superb album and add to it making it something extra special for the legion of Blue Nile fans. Money first and foremost and music and fans second and third - no surprise there in these modern times. The band should be ashamed that they let this happen.... What a rip off.

1.0 out of 5 stars Poor Quality, 22 May 2009
I have had nothing but problems with these cartridges from day one. Having put them in my Epson printer the print quality of the ink is very poor, despite repeated head cleaning it remains poor and the print nozzles seem to regularly clog up. Even after cleaning the nozzles white lines and blank areas appear in the printed ares of photos and all documents.
AVOID these cartridges, they are not fit for purpose, I usually buy Inkrite or Tesco own brand and they work perfectly!!

1.0 out of 5 stars Weapons of mass boredom, 27 Oct. 2007
The road to hell is allegedly paved with good intentions.... whilst many may, perhaps, possibly agree or sympathise with Annie's heartfelt views and emotions this is just too self indulgent, after all I want to enjoy and be entertained, not bored to tears..... very disappointing!

4.0 out of 5 stars Acoustically Speaking..., 12 Oct. 2007
This review is from: Live in Germany 1986 (Audio CD)
Very nice release with Martyn and long time foil Danny Thompson reunited for this 1986 gig and trip down memory lane with many of his 70s 'classic' songs. Sound quality is not quite there but if you can put that to one side and absorb the emotion of Martyn's voice, the precise guitar, empathetic bass playing and fantastic atmosphere you will thoroughly enjoy this CD!

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing beyond belief!, 8 July 2007
= Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars
Very poor, bears little if any resemblance to the real game, certainly not a simulation. Control is poor and inconsistencies are incredible and all too frequent. You can play the same shot a number of times and get different results. Graphics exceptionaly poor, water looks like tarmac patths and vice versa. AVOID - Sega Mega Drive was better!!!

1.0 out of 5 stars Awkward and Safe, 14 Oct. 2006
I was looking forward to a biography of THE Man, my long time hero, my reason de etre... I ordered and picked up this book full of enthusiasm to read all about my hero. HOW DISAPPOINTING. What a waste of money. My 8 year old son has a better understanding of grammatical english than Mr Barry. The writing style, flare, grammar and understanding of John Martyn, the man and the music is sadly lacking. This book, and I use the term loosly, doesn't even come close to a biography or indeed a Janet and John book. Did you study GCSE English Me Barry ? Obviously not. Poor content, poor writing, zero understanding, +1 for effort, overall a big fat zero!!! Makes Mills and Boon look awesome. Goodnight Vienna.

5.0 out of 5 stars In Heaven, In Session, 24 Sept. 2006
This review is from: In Session (Audio CD)
A refreshing release with some superbly recorded awesome performances from Martyn - I keep playing this release over and over again! John Martyn at his best. Far superior to recent live offerrings of inferior quality recordiings! The only slightly disappointing aspect is the rather poor artwork. The recent BBC Radio Live In Concert 2CD is in a similar vein but with far more interesting artwork. Well worth getting both releases!

1.0 out of 5 stars Drowning in a Sea of Cuttings from the Cutting Room Floor, 24 Sept. 2006
This review is from: Aerial (Audio CD)
I've been an immense admirer of Kate's music for decades and eagerley looked forward to this album counting the days until it arrived in my letterbox courtesy of amazon. But how disappointed I am. Despite many listens over the weeks waiting and yearning to hear something I missed the first time around I just can't hear it. Coral Room is perhaps the finest and most meldoic song on what is a deeply disappointing and lack lustre affair. Many of the songs sound like outtakes or cast aside work brought together and released on one album. It just doesn't sit together. Music is an intensely personal experience, we are all different (thank heavens!) As much as I want to like this album I just can't! Very disappointing after all the wait and some of the songs are a little self indulgent to say the least...If we have to wait another 10 years I for one hope that the wait will be worthwhile, but I will not buy the next album now becasue its Kate, I will need convincing next time!

5.0 out of 5 stars Hats Off, 24 Sept. 2006
This review is from: Hats (Audio CD)
An inspirational album of heartfelt songs from the Glasgow songsmith Paul Buchanan and friends. Buchanans' voice with all its emotion communicates like no other with the listener (perhaps only with the exception of fellow Glasweigan John Martyn). The fragility and broken high and lows of Buchanans' emotions are hear for all to hear and FEEL. Well crafted, melodic, beautiful and at time hard hitting - Don't mess about, just buy it!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Nothing Old and Grey About this DVD!, 2 Sept. 2006

It's been a very very long time coming but finally someone has got around to releasing Martyn's BBC TV appearances on DVD - WELL DONE UNIVERSAL! This is a fantastic collection of Old Grey Whistle Test and Rock Goes To College appearances. The last BBC material was released in 1982 on Betamax video so you can see what I mean about 'not before time!' So whats on it, well here we go ;

The Old Grey Whistle Test, Collegiate Theatre, UCL, January 10th 1978 - May You Never, Small Hours, Certain Surprise, Couldn't Love You More and Big Muff.

Rock Goes To College, Reading University, October 20th 1978 -

May You Never, One World, One Day Without You, The Dealer, Certain Surprise, Big Muff and Anna.

Rock Goes To College, Stirling University, March 2nd 1981

Big Muff, Some People Are Crazy, Grace and Danger, Save Some (For Me), Eibhli Ghail Chiuin Ni Chearbhail, Couldn't Love You More, Amsterdam and Johnny Too Bad.

Bonus Footage, ALL from The Old Grey Whistle Test;

March 13th 1973

May You Never and I'd Rather Be The Devil.

January 17th 1975

One Day Without You and You Can Discover.

March 1st 1977

Couldn't Love You More and One World.

October 15th 1982

Hiss On The Tape, Hung Up and Gun Money.

An absolutely essential DVD for all John Martyn fans, the animated menu is superb, the content even better and artwork excellent - a very well presented package with quality sleeve and good liner notes. Yeah, I know it's sad but I enjoy reading them!

A fantastic value release at less than £10, so waht are you waiting for? BUY IT, you will not be diappointed!
