Bass Guitar String Trees / String Retainers - Black
Bass Guitar String Trees / String Retainers - Black
Offered by Northwest Guitars Ltd
Price: £3.29

3.0 out of 5 stars Great item, but screw supplied not fit for purpose., 20 May 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
The string tree item in itself seems fine and of decent quality, but I simply could not understand how the supplier can see that the screw supplied with the item was fit for purpose.

The hole size in the string tree is around 3mm, but the screw only had a small 1.5mm diameter. It was around 13mm long, so once you put it through the string tree, only has around 3mm of length to grip onto a substrate material (string tree is 10mm high). For this context, the screw needs to be at least 20-25mm long to have an effective grip on the wood of an instrument headstock.

I'm a DIY person, sand I had a spare wood screw lying around that fit and was long enough, so lucky me. Imagine if someone else, who is not so DIY-savvy, did not have spare screws to hand.

4.0 out of 5 stars Overall a good product., 14 May 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
In spite of the reasonably high overall feel and finish, there is a slight lack of consistency in quality: out of four machine heads, one was slightly loose (even after tightening the screw behind the machine head), two were okay and one was very tight. That said, it was a doodle to install these items, and my P Bass looks sweet with them rounding out the rest of the black hardware.

TOP Quality Maple 21 Fret Bass Neck For Fender Bass-JAZZ Bass replacement Clear Satin

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice and comfortable neck: lovely slim Jazz neck profile., 14 May 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Very good quality neck with excellent finish. Neck was supplied with a very basic bone nut; I had to spend a fair bit of time sanding down sharp edges and filing the nuts slots to the right depth. Very comfortable to play once installed, and truss rod seems very stable after a short breaking-in period.

Very high quality item. The closest thing to this would be a gotoh brass bridge which costs much more. Easy to replace my P Bass bridge with this guy: did not even have to re-drill the holes! Sound good too.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice and sturdy, highly recommended., 7 May 2015

Unlike a lot of other plugs out there, this little guy is nice and sturdy. Great if you dig transparent blue plastic, but also somewhat useful as it makes for less confusion as to whose convertor plug belongs to whom.

3.0 out of 5 stars You can do better for this kind of money, 21 April 2015
In-ear 'phones are always a hit-and-miss depending on what you look for. More often than not, it's only too easy for manufacturers to overlook the bass-heavy aspects of in-ear construction and totally neglect the finesse of sound. While I applaud Sennheiser for avoiding too much bass in these earphones, the treble in these little buds can sometimes come across as sibilant, or in the worst-case scenario, rather raspy indeed.

These are almost certainly 'dry'-sounding buds, with a pronouncement in the lower treble / upper mids that allows you to hear the upper-end percussiveness of a kick bass drum; this effect, however, almost makes every vocal seem harsh: whenever there is an 's' or 't' that is sung by a vocalist, you are made known of it. While this brings older, non-mastered albums to life, I'm not a fan of being jarred by sibilants, especially when trying to enjoy my music. I've owned sibilant headphones (Grado SR225i) but these buds just bring the music out in the wrong way.

Sorry Sennheiser, I kind of expected more, especially since I enjoyed your Urbanite headphones so much!

5.0 out of 5 stars I dare say the best sounding cans I've owned in a while., 21 April 2015
Having used a variety of consumer-grade as well as higher-end headphones for studio recording, monitoring and mixing, I've come to the conclusion that there are headphones for doing specific tasks. Thankfully, for everybody out there, the Sennheiser Urbanites are perfect for enjoying music, regardless of the genre.

Initially, I had felt that the grip of the headband was a little too tight, and maybe the treble response was not as prominent as my Grado SR225is (which, incidentally, are considerably more sibilant, and certainly lack more bass due to their open-back nature.) Eventually, those initial gripes gave way to what I felt was a delivery that made me want to sit back and breathe in the wide range of music I really enjoyed.

Micheal Jackson's "Rock with You" swept along with plenty of punch in the kick and good percussiveness in the rhythm guitars; Pink Floyd's "Sheep" bumped along suitably well with excellent stereo imaging; the gleefully raw drumming of Dave Grohl in Them Crooked Vultures' "Scumbag Blues" came across with enough aplomb to convince me that these were certainly keepers when it came to delivering the goods with driving tunes. That said, this guy is no slouch with dynamics and delicate material either: there was plenty of body in the vocals and acoustic in Fleet Foxes' "Heard Them Stirring"; the piano in Coldplay's "Trouble" clearly had no such difficulties either.

In terms of usability, these are pretty chunky, and potentially rather heavy for those who are constantly on the move. I myself, may prefer my AKG K451s for the daily commute, but for an evening of listening to a few select tracks, I daresay you would find any other cans which have such excellent balance of tone. \With the exception of bass-freaks, these truly do not leave you wanting to make any EQ tweaks.

4.0 out of 5 stars great strap made better with modern update, 19 April 2015

I've always enjoyed Optech straps. This modern version now comes with handy rubberised dots for added grip onto my shoulder! I've been using it with great success and I am looking forward to a work trip to Hong Kong, where I am sure this will work with aplomb.
