Great book - terrible packaging by Amazon - twice!!, 21 Dec 2013
Don't get me wrong: this is a barnstormer of a book (actually it consists of two volumes). I already have the three preceding volumes in the series, and this is a worthy successor . No: the poor star rating is due to Amazon's surprisingly careless approach to packaging these two, very heavy volumes. The publication of these books was unexpectedly delayed (not Amazon's fault, obviously), and the paperback became available before the hardback (very unusual and rather annoying!). When the hardbacks finally arrived, thy came in a standard Amazon book box but with almost zero padding inside. The box had been badly knocked about in transit (again, not Amazon's fault), and the corners of the two books were really very badly "bumped". I applied for a replacement, and I have to admit that Amazon's DPD collection and replacement service were as usual exemplary. BUT... Once again, the replacement book arrived in the same less than acceptable packaging. One of the books' corners were bumped, but not as daly as last time and, although these are expensive books (£85), I have lost the will to return them a second time. So, PLEASE Amazon, improve your act when it comes to packaging high value books. Especially hen a replacement is concerned. You need to have an override process when this occurs, and to identify Jose cases when extra care is required in packaging. I do appreciate that packaging is free but you need to distinguish between cheap £5 disposable paperbacks and expensive academic books for a serious library, as in my case.
