1,227 QI Facts To Blow Your Socks Off
Price: £4.19

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book, 26 Oct. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This book is full of interesting little facts that will often surprise you.

It's fairly brief, and simply lists fact after fact, which can sometimes leave you wanting to know more. But for a book of interesting facts it's worth its price!

5.0 out of 5 stars Good anti-virus, 26 Oct. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
For a while I used free anti-virus programs (such as Avast, AVG, etc.) but after trying Norton when I got a free trial on a new laptop, I've bought each year it since.

It's pretty fast, and doesn't interrupt while you're using your computer. It automatically runs its scans when it detects the computer is idle, which means that just leaving your PC on while you go for a snack is enough for Norton to start a scan and it doesn't get in the way while you're trying to work.

As anti-virus goes, this is my recommendation.

WD My Passport 1TB Portable Hard Drive - Black
WD My Passport 1TB Portable Hard Drive - Black
Offered by Digital Components Ltd (dclstore)
Price: £49.99

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Hard Drive, 26 Oct. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
It's a nice little hard drive with a good amount of storage.
It's quite light, which might be useful for people who will be transporting it a lot.
It also uses a standard cable, so it's easy to pick up a new one in case it gets lost, rather than having to fork out a tonne of money for the custom ones that some drives use.

It's fairly fast, which is useful for me as I use it mainly for backups - so lots of small file transfers very regularly.

I've had it for quite a while now and I'm very happy with it and had no problems.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book for Game Programming, 25 Feb. 2012
The title may be slightly misleading when compared to many other books about game development. Most of the others offer a step-by-step walkthrough of creating a small game, or series of small games.
This book, however, is much more than that. It covers many of the very important techniques and topics needed for developing games, and much of the background information that helps understand what each different person does when working on a game.

This book covers, albeit some things only briefly, almost all of the necessary things to know for game development, from 3D maths to scripting.

This is possibly one of the best "Introduction" books for game development or programming that I have read.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the Best Maths Books for Programmers, 25 Feb. 2012
This book contains all of the Mathematical techniques needed for graphics and game programming.

I haven't yet come across any maths needed in game programming that can't be found in this book.
Everything is explained thoroughly will diagrams and formulae provided.

The book start from a fairly simple level, and it would be possible to read it with very little background in maths.

Very simple code samples are given, and the CD that accompanies this book has various examples and exercises to help learn how to put the techniques to practical application.

I recommend this book for anybody serious about learning game programming.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very Good C++ Book, 25 Feb. 2012
I would recommend this as one of the best books for learning C++.

The book goes step-by-step through the language, starting off at a very beginner level and getting gradually higher in complexity.
Everything from basic variables to advanced templates and inheritance is covered, and with good examples and explanations.

Beginners should be able to pick this book up, with practically no knowledge of C++, and be able to understand and learn the language. At the same time, the book provides a very efficient refresher for those who are slightly more experienced with C++.

I completely recommend this book as a starting point for anybody wishing to learn the C++ language and basic programming techniques.
