2.0 out of 5 stars So-so but I've seen worse!, 13 Jan 2011
I purchased the series because I was a fan of On the Buses and have to say I'm not surprised in any way. Typical 70s British comedy. One thing that does get on my nerves is the continuous moaning and whining of both Stephen Lewis and, particularly, Pat Coombs. Sometimes her screeching literally goes right through me! Not much imagination has gone into the series as basically every episode is set in the apartment and sometimes the local cafe. I don't hate it but probably won't watch it again.

Calculations for A-Level Chemistry - Third Edition
Calculations for A-Level Chemistry - Third Edition
by Eileen Ramsden
Edition: Paperback

5.0 out of 5 stars Essential reading for A-level chemistry., 19 Mar 2009
Given that GCSE chemistry provides almost no introduction to quantitative chemistry, this book is pretty much essential for anyone studying A-level chemistry. It gives practice in all aspects required by the exam - stoichiometry, oxidation numbers, titrations etc.

4.0 out of 5 stars Actually quite good!, 17 Mar 2009
I recently gave this book a 2-star review, but I now feel that was unfair. Having read the preface I realise that the Miscellaneous Exercises at the end of each chapter are for those looking for a challenge and Scholarship Paper candidates. The book gives adequate 'easy' exercises for those of normal ability range, although an introductory text may be helpful for some chapters, particularly the one of Centres of Mass. Certainly helpful for first year undergraduates studying classical mechanics.

3.0 out of 5 stars Maybe just a bit too challenging., 3 Mar 2009
This book was published in the early 1980s, and much of the text is taken from their earlier books (Pure Mathematics 1 and 2) published in the mid-1970s, so the book is much less accessible than many contemporary books available. It is a very good book in terms of standards and scope, but assumes a sound prior knowledge of mathematics which most people will not have today coming from a GCSE or IGCSE background.

4.0 out of 5 stars Informative but not over-informative!, 3 Mar 2009
One of the things I really liked about this book was how it kept a balance between breadth and depth. Geographically and politically neutral, the whole World is given appropriate coverage, rather than just focusing on Europe and the United States, which is so often the case. I have started reading many history books where I have become too bogged down in detail and feeling like I have to 'force' myself to continue reading, but this book is quite light-hearted but still informative. Quite easy to read before bed!

4.0 out of 5 stars As good as the first book!, 3 Mar 2009
Brilliant sequel to the first book. Gives you all the information (and more) required for any A Level biology course. I used it for a first-year pharmacy degree module in anatomy and physiology, so it is perfect for introductory undergraduate courses as well.

Biological Science 1: Organisms, Energy and Environment: Organisms, Energy and Environment v. 1
by Roland Soper
Edition: Paperback

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent book!, 3 Mar 2009
Even though this book was published over 20 years ago, it still contains all the information required for A Level Biology and first year undergraduate courses. It's only downside is that there is slightly too much information, and it can take a while to work out what you actually need. Brilliant for background reading though! The second book completes the course.

3.0 out of 5 stars So so, 18 July 2008
This book is not bad, but it's not very good either. The book is detailed and gives a good description of what social anxiety and shyness is and how it develops and continues, but it is missing something. In some parts the book is painfully dry. I think I'll need to see a professional to help me overcome my problems.
