2.0 out of 5 stars only 3 decent tunes, 9 Aug 2001
This review is from: In My Lifetime Vol. 1 (Audio CD)
the only good songs on this are city is mine, friend or foe and sunshine, but even these leave a lot to be desired. jay-z's lyrics are not the best ive heard, he is trying to hard to be the next biggie but doesnt have the skills to come close, BIG's lyrics painted a picture where as jigga just tells u wot he saw . the beats on almost all the tracks are bland and even boring

3.0 out of 5 stars some quality tunes, 9 Aug 2001
i bought this cd on the fact that big pimpin and anything were on it and i was pleasently suprised at how good the rest of it was. although nowhere near being called a classic this includes some typical jigga beats and tunes.

4.0 out of 5 stars keep it up jigga man!, 9 Aug 2001

jay-z has just dropped a classic album, the beats are tight, the lyrics are well thought out and overall this is a quality album. however i cannot stand the high pitched whining of amil, the first lady of the ROC. frankly she does my head in! the rest of the clan bring their own styles which adds to the variety.(bleek gets away from his usual sh*t lyrics to put some decent lines down). the only thing i can say that is wrong with the production is that some of the tracks are a bit too similar and blend together.

5.0 out of 5 stars must have cd, 9 Aug 2001

this is one of the best albums ive heard, biggie smalls truely is the nicest mc, if you hear this you will believe me. there are such a wide variety of tracks from hardcore to commercial to downright funky. even the skits are interesting. this is the kind of album you can listen to without ever wanting to skip a track. a true classic, such a pity christopher wallace isnt here to follow it up. 4.0 out of 5 stars one of the best albums 4 a long time, 8 Aug 2001
This review is from: Moment Of Truth (EMI) (Audio CD)
this has to be in your cd collection, the premier beats and producing are some of the best ive heard, guru's rhyme style is up there with the best in the business, there are tracks that you really have to listen to listen to over and over again. the only thing stopping this from 5 stars is the fact that sometimes the beats on different tracks can sound a bit similar. that said any true hip hop fan will love this

1.0 out of 5 stars dont believe the hype, 8 Aug 2001
This review is from: Illmatic (Audio CD)
despite everyone saying this is a hip hop classic, in my personal opinion it is one of the poorest albums i've heard in a long time. there are only 10 tracks and all of them are bland, the lyrical content is not that amazing and the beats are so poor it would be better without them. i would recomend nas' i am.. album instead of this as it has some good tunes in it.
