5.0 out of 5 stars Still the best, 10 Feb. 2011
This review is from: Jazz Samba (Audio CD)
Almost 50 Years old. This recording spawned ten years of jazz bossa nova. However this was the first and 'Desafinado'spent many weeks in the hit parade of the time.I lost my copy of this and have recently repaced it.After a break I was astounded how fresh it still seems, and Getz's virtuosity is magnificent.I rank this in my all time top ten.Just buy and enjoy.

5.0 out of 5 stars aan absolute bargain, 23 Sept. 2010
For this amazing price you get some of the best music from the great American Songbook.
Ella and Louis are just great fun and compliment each other.Allthe tracks are good. The outstanding track is
'Savoy ' where on the final chorus Louis just laughts as he cannot keep up with Ella's virtuosity.

5.0 out of 5 stars Virtuoso, 23 Sept. 2010
This review is from: Sinatra & Sextet (Audio CD)
Only four and half stars from your reviewers. What's wrong with the other half. This is Sintra with a sextet in a very
large theatre in Paris.Nowhere to hide.He struts his stuff superbly. From the bounce of'Goody Goody'and 'The Lady is a Tramp' to the chilling 'Ol' Man River ',not bad for a white Italian. The audiance went away happy!!

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the all times grats, 14 Sept. 2010
This turned me on to Jazz on first hearing as a young lad of eighteen ....just a few years ago.It is an absolute joy
with all men playing excellently. No matter how often I listen to this disc it always thrills and there fresh bits of excitement I had forgotten. If one could take only one disc to the Desert Island this would be it

4.0 out of 5 stars Great, 14 Sept. 2010
Probably the best Ellington studio recording of the sixties.Everyone on top form here out of respect for Billy Strayhorn. Wonderful Hodges,Cootie, and Cat Anderson. The guest appearence on some numbers of Clark Terry adds to the
high level of virtuosity. The Duke steals it with an end of session solo on Lotus Blossom.Just buy it and enjoy it for a million years

Well where did 50 years go ? Stunning when I first heard it as a teenager and just as good today.Wonderful improvisation in unusual time meters.Brubeck has been maligned by the critics but this shows just how good the group was.The additional cd shows why the public loved him.The dvd is a piece of jazz history.Includes "Take Five"which rode high in the Hit Parade of its day.Would any jazz track get in the Charts of today ?

Johnny Hodges small groups from the early and mid fifties.Great alto of course but backed up with sparkling trumpet and trombone. All tracks are good but the blues numbers are outstanding.Guaranteed to have your foot tapping and to put a smile on your face.Wonderful !!!
