Acute observations on the experience of growing up, brilliantly told!, 23 Oct. 2015
Jim has managed to capture the characters and humour of growing up in a tough environment, with a really engaging writing style. It is both a beautifully detailed insight into a period of Scottish social history life as well as an inspiring story of going to huge lengths to achieve dreams. The book is filled with laugh out loud moments, sometimes from hilarity, sometimes from incredulity, sometimes just the brilliance of the dialogue and imagery captured. It is definitely a warts and all trip down memory lane for Jim which is probably what increases it's impact - there is an honesty in the memories and the off beat way the young Divine approaches and resolves his problems to often unexpected consequences! A thoroughly enjoyable read.
