Moving into Meditation: A 12-week Mindfulness Program for Yoga Practitioners
Moving into Meditation: A 12-week Mindfulness Program for Yoga Practitioners
by Anne Cushman
Edition: Paperback
Price: £14.88

4.0 out of 5 stars A Peaceful Guide in a Stressful World, 29 Aug 2014
The arguments for following a regular meditation program are so well documented these days that few people can fail to understand the immense benefits that it can bring to every part of one's life.

This is a book that offers a simple 12 stage tuition programme aimed at newcomers to the subject. It looks at every aspect to meditation as well as its important offshoots such as yoga and breath control.

Each week includes excellent practical exercises and additional illustrations to help the student learn quickly and properly each of the techniques involved.

The book also offers more than simple guidance and advice. It is full of additional material - some of it practical and personal and some of it philosophical and spiritual - all of which goes to make an interesting and informative read in its own right.

This is an excellent publication from a great teacher and I would recommend it to anyone seeking a healthier, less-stressful and simpler lifestyle.

Please note this review is my own independent assessment of a review copy of the book that was kindly supplied to me via its publisher.

I Am a Sirian - Starseeds On Earth!
I Am a Sirian - Starseeds On Earth!
Price: £1.92

4.0 out of 5 stars A Warm Message of Spiritual Support!, 21 Aug 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is a short but info-packed resource that many Sirian starseeds will enjoy. It is written in a personable and friendly way leading its reader to feel that its authors, Tony and Robyn Abbott understand the problems and issues faced by 5th/6th density beings struggling to cope with 3rd density issues.

In many regards the information presented here is equally applicable to many starseed groups but if you are starting to awaken to your own Sirian heritage then this is a publication that you will both enjoy and get some helpful practical guidance from.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Vital Collection of Important Research Papers, 9 Aug 2014
Don't be put off by the technical words used in the description for this book - nor by the lofty qualifications of its contributors, for this is a highly readable and fascinating collection of papers written in a very down to earth manner.

Subjects covered in this publication range from the history of mankind and his early experience with hallucinogenics through to the application of sacred drugs in modern mysticism. Each paper is thoroughly researched and brilliantly constructed.

All of the important issues related to the somewhat contentious debate of whether drugs should be legalised or not are given a much broader analysis here. This is now a subject, the implications of which are immense, that has begun to impact upon academic and scientific circles. The response has been well-reasoned and then presented in a much less sensationalist way than that of today's popular news media.

The message here is that we need to look back to history, literature and religion to discover that the subject of both natural and artificial forms of psychedelics has its roots much deeper than our current tune in, turn on, drop out drugs counter-culture might suggest.

This is a thoroughly fascinating book, partly illustrated and with full research references, that I enjoyed immensely.

Congratulations to all the contributors and the editors for producing such a fine analysis of a complex subject.

The Shaman Within: A Physicist's Guide to the Deeper Dimensions of Your Life, the Universe, and Everything
The Shaman Within: A Physicist's Guide to the Deeper Dimensions of Your Life, the Universe, and Everything
by Claude Poncelet Phd
Edition: Paperback
Price: £15.99

5.0 out of 5 stars A Bridge Between Science and Metaphysics, 4 Aug 2014
There have been many books written about Shamanic World traditions over the years but few have extended its core philosophy quite so far as Claude Poncelet in The Shaman Within.

The book is a carefully considered balance between what many consider to be the oldest spiritual tradition known to mankind and new explorations into the cutting edge of science, physics and astronomy.

It is a delightfully written book that flows and draws its reader into a fascinating glimpse of a twilight world based around the authors vast experience as a physicist and practising Shaman. It contains personal anecdotal references as well as practical exercises on how to engage with the Metaverse on a more meaningful and personal level.

The author argues most convincingly that Shamanism rather than being an archaic form of metaphysics may well hold the key to restoring the nature balance to our personal as well as professional lives her on this planet.

This is a book that I would recommend to any one looking for something a little different from our more traditional and established world view. I thoroughly enjoyed it and look forward to reading more in the future by its author and his ideas for 21st century Shamanism.

Animal Wisdom: Learning from the Spiritual Lives of Animals (Sacred Activism)
Animal Wisdom: Learning from the Spiritual Lives of Animals (Sacred Activism)
by Linda Bender
Edition: Paperback
Price: £14.99

3.0 out of 5 stars Good but Not as Expected, 1 Aug 2014
I am not as enthusiastic about this book as others have been in their reviews. It seems to me that it fails to live up to its title.

It is not that it is not a good read it is just that there is a lot of human wisdom in it and not a lot of animal wisdom as promised by the title.

It is the sort of book that is pitched at those dog and cat lovers who believe that they have a strong sense of emotional connection with their pets. The book does contain some remarkable insights into human perception of the spirits of animals but very little in the way of any insights that they might want to communicate to us.

Anthropomorphization (meaning to place human values onto our pets) is a long word but it is one that does seems to describe an underlying issue here. It is a psychological condition that is both very active within our society as well as being so evidently reflected within the pages of this book.

Later exercises geared towards psychic connection with our animals are pretty good but throughout there is a great deal of commentary on the meaning and quality of the human experience rather than that of our canine or feline friends.

Overall this is an interesting and sometime moving read and I am sure that animal lovers will enjoy it immensely but those looking for deeper philosophical and spiritual insights from our four-legged companions should be wary before purchasing it.

The Tao of Intimacy & Ecstasy: Realizing the Promise of Spiritual Union
The Tao of Intimacy & Ecstasy: Realizing the Promise of Spiritual Union
by Solala Towler
Edition: Paperback
Price: £14.25

4.0 out of 5 stars A Great Book to Keep Handy in the Bedroom, 29 July 2014
The Western World is not used to integrating sex and spirituality - if it were then this book would become something of a holy text!

Focussing upon the re-channelling of inner psychic energy and the development of balance and intimacy in a relationship this book highlights the benefits to be gained from integrating Taoist philosophy into our love-making.

Incorporating other key practices such as tantra and meditation this is a very honest book - but a very practical one at the same time.

From the perspective of someone who is interested in the body-spirit connection I found this expose of Eastern mysticism and modern relationships to be thoroughly engrossing. The author is clearly someone who understands the practicalities of the subject he writes about and this finds expression in the way that the book flows and engages with its reader.

It may have been a slightly better publication with the inclusion of some helpful and illuminating images or diagrams and for the lack of them and lack of an index I have knocked a star off.

If this does not matter much to you then I would say this is a great book written with the Western rather than Eastern mind as a consideration. It offers a great amount of information in its couple of hundred pages and is a worthy purchase.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Piece of Furniture Which Does Not Dominate the Room, 24 July 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Took less than 15 minutes to put together using the enclosed tools. The overall quality of the rack is high and the wood has been stained well - compared to some furniture which is only stained on its outer surfaces.)

This is not a cheap unit but you get that little extra quality from paying extra. It shows in its overall appearance and finish. Plugs for the screwholes might have been a nice additional extra and so I have knocked a star off because of their omission.

Otherwise a great and attractive item which I am very pleased with.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Quality Substitutions., 24 July 2014
These are a great substitution for the standard HP toner cartridges. In fact the results are very close to that obtained using the much more expensive originals.

I did find that the blacks and greys of this toner came out slightly darker but this was no real issue as I just adjusted the original images accordingly.

They were a breeze to fit and the printer recognized them without any errors or problems.

Great value for money!
