5.0 out of 5 stars Compelling read!, 18 Sept. 2013

Lucid, passionate, funny, occasionally harrowing account/reportage of the author's life and many travels makes for a perfect holiday or non-holiday read/present. Favourite bit? Aunt Nora and Biggie Tembo in conversation on life the universe and everything. North Korea, Haiti, The Roaring Lion, Mali, the whole book, really. Never boring. Never dull. Occasionally painfully honest which couldn't have been easy. Gripping, compelling with lots of compassion and huge doses of righteous indignation at the horrors he describes. Yet remarkably upbeat in spite of all. A riotously funny, extremely readable, and, rather surprisingly (for this reader at any rate) well worth it for the remarkably unpretentious, humble, BS-free personality that shines through. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Album for Old-Time Calypso Lovers, 24 Jun. 2011
This review is from: University of Calypso (Audio CD)
Clearly the first reviewer didn't geddit because I take it he's not Trinidadian and so does not know of the great singer Relator. This is top stuff from Andy and his band backing as Relator sings his greatest hits. Sorry, I think you really need to be Trini or love Calypso to appreciate how great this album is as you would have no idea what the hell indeed is the singer going on about.

these are really pretty but the sling just does not work. your foot slips out which rather kills the point of it. Shame really as they look good.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best biomedical book on autism ever, 5 Mar. 2008
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This book really is the best on the subject. She writes clearly about the science behind the role of nutritional intervention and her suggestions even though seen as barmy by some (no to rice, potatoes, and yes to meats with fat) makes a lot of sense when she explains the reasons. There are loads of magic remedies being peddled by snake oil merchants (just have a look at the American yahoo websites for GF/CF) enough to make any parent of an autistic child feel hopelessly inadequate. Ms. McBride, a doctor herself argues that the SCD diet combined with ABA intensive early intervention is probably the most sensible option. The most lucidly argued book on autism treatments (and I have read quite a few!!)
