Before I heard the shocking news of David Bowie's death, I was playing this album in the car, really listening to it for the first time. What was an album that was already starting to impress me has suddenly taken on a whole new meaning. I've never really been a Bowie fan as such, but I've always been an admirer. Blackstar is a tragically fitting end to one of rock's most amazing careers. Like Sinatra, Presley and Mercury, Bowie will never be replaced.

2.0 out of 5 stars Tedious and pointless, 15 Dec. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Unfortunately it wasn't until I reached the end that discovered the author of this tedious book was a member of the non-science based Discovery Institute. Although he may have a scientific background, Berlinski clearly no longer wants to identify with real scientists, and has chosen to work on the religious dogma of so-called intelligent design (creationism that hides itself behind a smokescreen of science). Maybe one day I'll read a book that even remotely succesfully argues the case for religion over reality. This book is not it.

1.0 out of 5 stars spend a bit more for better quality!, 20 May 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Play-Doh Plus - 8 Tub Pack (Toy)
This play doh is awful. I opted for this brand instead of the well known ones as this was quite a bit cheaper, but the quality is appalling! It's more like mush than play doh. My daughter finishes playing and is covered with gooey paste that's difficult to get off of her hands as well as the surface she plays on.

Solid and substantial, yet neither too big or too heavy. This is a lovely little item, and if you own a Mini (why wouldn't you?), it perfectly complements your good taste.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, 13 April 2013
Build, looks, sound quality, all IMHO absolutely what I was after. When I ordered it, I didn't realise it had a CD player, so added bonus there. Top notch product as far as I'm concerned.

The Final Testament

4.0 out of 5 stars The uncomfortable (for the religious) truth about religion, 8 July 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: The Final Testament (Hardcover)
I there is to be a new Messiah (if, indeed, there ever has been one), let us all hope he is like Ben Zion. Here's a man who does all the things that people claim Jesus did, but for a real purpose and to positive effect. But more than that, he exposes religion for the sham that it is.

Told from multiple viewpoints (much like that other work of fiction, the Bible), James Frey's novel is a sometimes awkward read, but when it comes to laying bare the myths that religion peddles as 'truth', I can imagine it will cause some discomfort to some, and a hearty "Hell, yes" from those, like myself, who have never bought into the lies of religion.

Blasphemy? Yes. But then blasphemy is a victimless crime.

5.0 out of 5 stars What do you want from a movie?, 21 July 2010
Do you want great action set-pieces, including car chases, gunfights and zero-gravity arm-to-arm stuff? Do you want a high-concept but without any dumbing-down? Do you want a great cast with excellent actors? Do you want characters you can believe in and root for, who provide an emotional wallop to keep things grounded?

If you want any things, or indeed all of them, you want Inception. But be careful, you could end up with your brain fizzing and popping in all directions.

4.0 out of 5 stars Will probably alienate many, 19 Nov. 2009
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Embryonic [Standard] (Audio CD)
Having become almost superstars, the new Flaming Lips album will probably turn off many people. Old fans, especially those (like me) who were introduced to the weird universe of the Lips through their most commercial album, Yoshimi...., will probably wonder what on earth is going on here. Also, it is probably too harsh for newbies, who will probably be turned off by its distinct lack of anything commercial.

But stick with it, and after a few listens the tunes and themes start to make themselves heard above the noise. I was also lucky enough to see the band live, and the songs they picked from Embryonic tended to make more sense in that setting. Although definitely no classic in the Soft Bulletin or Yoshimi... mode, this certainly is a better album than a first listen would suggest.

2.0 out of 5 stars Too long, 28 May 2008
At half it's length, this may have been an entertaining read. At 750 pages with a fairly small typeface, this book just seems to go on forever. And it's extremely repetetive, with the heroes sneaking around, being uncovered, fighting their way to freedom, followed by more sneaking around and on and on and on. It's never entirely clear what the dastardly plot actually is, and there are just far too many villains to keep up with, especially when they start turning on each other.

The adventure continues with 'The Dark Volume', but I'm not sure with I'm really that interested to find out how or if things are fully concluded.
