Excellent value., 2 Nov 2011
For the money this is a very good camera. Very compact and light when you consider that it has an 18 times zoom lens.
Start up time is increbibly quick, you can start taking pictures within 2 seconds of pressing the start button.
This is a very smart looking camera and as usual with Olympus the build quality is excellent. Looks much more expensive than it is.
The 3.0 inch screen is very bright and clear and i have had no problem using it in bright sunlight. I also have an Olympus digital SLR camera and bought the SZ-10 to stick in my pocket when out hill walking and climbing when i dont want the extra bulk and weight of the SLR. Although i am only an enthusiastic amateur i do find the lack of manual control on the SZ-10 frustrating at times. This is primarily a point and shoot camera.
Image quality for landscape and outdoor pictures is fantastic. Colours are rich and vibrant without being over saturated.
Indoor pictures however are very grainy/noisy if there is a lack of day light or good artificial light.
Although this camera has got image stability the camera is still very hard to hold still when using maximum zoom.
The optical zoom cannot be used when using video mode which some people may find a problem. You have to zoom in first then start filming. Video quality is very good though.
As a small and pocketable camera i am very happy with it but it is no replacement for an SLR or high end compact with more manual control.
