Shostakovitch Symphony No 10, 4 Jan. 2011
This symphony is Shostakovitch liberated from the shackles of the tyrant Stalin. It is a powerful mix of tragedy, satire and triumph. Vasily Petrenko has given us a fine interpretation. The scherzo has a biting edge and the famous DSCH 3rd movement has thrilling intensity, leading to a suitably exultant climax in the 4th. This would be a worthy addition to any collection.
