4.0 out of 5 stars Absolute worth the low price..., 31 Mar 2014

This review is from: Mahler: Symphonies (Audio CD)
My 5'th complete Mahler.... Solti, Kubelik, Berstein and NYP, Inbal and the DG box with "#the best n each"... Plus Klemperer, Neumann and Svetlanov... All together, the Boston SO and Ozawa are not the ultimate team, but very enjoyable ant a great bargain for the price asked. The only thing I miss is the Blumine, that Ozawa also have recorded, it would perfectly fit together with the 1'st symphony...

5.0 out of 5 stars A five star bassoon quintet, 31 Mar 2014

I just bought two of those gifted bassoonists records... I did one mistake... listening at both in a row. A bit tiring sound.. Split it up, and there is much enjoyment in those arrangements, played by highly professional musicians...

4.0 out of 5 stars a four-star quintet of bassoons.., 31 Mar 2014

A very hath technical quality playing from these professional Fagottists. Just one little problem: Don¨t listen to everything at a time... No matter perfect, inspired playing, all bassoon sound gets a bit tiring sound. Mix with some other music and get back, and it will sound fresh and interesting again!

Fresh instalments of Haydns too seldom played violin concertos. Music that makes you happy. Like much of the Haydn music. Recommended.

3.0 out of 5 stars Carmignola, less intense, 25 Nov 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I had very high expectation on this recording after Carmignolas recordings with the Venice Baroque Orchestra. The early Sony recordings (with one of the very best recordings of the maybe otherwise too often recorded four seasons, and the CD with "late Vivaldi concertos". Those two, together with the first Archiv recording are superb "5+"-CD:s, and unfortunately is this "con moto", despite the witty title/front picture with the soloist apparently riding a "moto"-bike not matching the intensity and freshness of those previous renditions. If it is Vivaldis fault or the musicians? Well, I would say both. The text indicates that some of those concerts are less-often heard concertos - I would not say that it is an obvious reason for this, but together with this - in comparison with his above mentioned recordings - it is somehow a disappointment to me. Now, this does NOT mean they are not worth listening to, and maybe even add them to your record collection., and if you have not heard his earlier recordings, it is still very high standard of playing from the musicians. I would though urge those who have not heard his recordings with the Veicians, go ahead and buy them! If you like this, you will absolutely not be disappointed with them!

4.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful music, great recording, 10 May 2013

This review is from: Smetana: Má vlast (Audio CD)
At this price among the best you can get of "Ma vlast". A close race with Smetacek, Ancerl and not least Kubelik (and why not A Wit on Naxos?). I still hold the Czech recordings on Supraphon the highest, close followed by Kubelik on DG, but Sargent is very close the 5'th star here. Wonderful romantic nationalistic music.

Interesting and absolutely well played Liszt in a well balanced mixture of his later works! I enjoy every disc, but there are otehr recordings with even more intense interpretations. A strong 4-star issue.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Poulenc!, 10 May 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I am a fan of this composer! Having sung some of his œvres in a Motet choir, and enjoyed his chamber music as good friend of some very good young Swedish musicians (Henrik Berg and Stefan Moberg on piano and cello respectively) and remembering hearing his lovely, playful and witty concerts, all these records are as pleasant as they can be. Best interprets (as long as the awaited Moberg-Berg recording of the cello sonata has yet to be done...), what more can I say? Strongly recommended, and a bargain at this price!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent sound, precious recordings, 10 May 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Most of the 55 CD:s that I have listened through fulfill my high expectations. I bought the first remastered box (50 CD) and was pleased with what I heard, allthough not all records felt "necessary". So far none of the CD:s I have listened through have been unitresting, on the contrary. Some are documents of older ideals of interpretations, but surprisingly many (especially the Dorati recordings) are up to date in many respects as well. A 5 star strong recommendation, both given the ultra low price per CD and the excellent transfers and an interesting mixture of music. Strongly recomended. If you liked the Vol 1, this No. 2 won't disappoint!

3.0 out of 5 stars Well played Beethoven-like music, 17 Mar 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I bought this record of pure curiosity, not knowing much of his music except for his concerto for trumpet, which is a frequent "filler" on recordings of the J Haydn's more famous one. And a pleasant hour awaited me, though not with the intensity and character of the Beethoven piano concertos that seems to have inspired JNH, but nevertheless, well worth listening to. Knowing that Hummel and Beethoven had had the same teachers (Albrechtsberger, Haydn and Salieri), and probably JNH also had listened to the Beethoven concertos as well in Vienna, it makes sense. But it also makes sense that there probably are some 40-50 recordings of a Beethoven concerto per Hummel concerto.
