there are other rivers, 21 Dec 2013
I've read many book over the past few years by people who have cycled here and walked there, including Humphreys 2 books of his round the world cycle, and some were better than others but all were enjoyable. But they all get a bit repetitive and all touch on the same things - preparing for the trip, the way they pack their panniers, finding a place to sleep for the night etc etc etc. There are other rivers was a refreshing change to the standard format by omitting place names, routes, timings etc and concentrating solely on snapshots from a journey on a road which could be any journey on any road ( this on just happened to be in india ). Very good read and a bit deeper than the normal cycling/walking books I've read recently. I do cycle touring myself and i felt this book got closer to why people put themselves through these things and closer to the actual feeling of being on the road for so long in foreign lands. Highly recommended.
