5.0 out of 5 stars Pure Bliss, 24 Dec 2008
This album is amazing, the cuts on here are so chilled out that listening to this album is just a pleasure. It serves as a perfect introduction to the Cafe Del Mar series for newcomers and for the more knowledgable dance heads who have visited the white isle i'm sure this will take you back there.. a stunning album from start to finish

Northern Lights (His Dark Materials)
Northern Lights (His Dark Materials)

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Amazing, 10 April 2007
Northern Lights is an incredible book... starting off the Dark Materials series.. this trilogy of books more than holds its own against Mr Tolkiens most famous work and it blows the Harry Potter books out of the water.

Pullmans imagination and vision is spectacular to see, creating a world that is so similar to ours yet different in so many ways, with an amazingly diverse cast of characters from witches to armoured bears.

Whilst parts of the narrative follow a fairly typical fantasy storyline, the world that it occurs in is what makes this book special, a vivid reality is created with memorable characters that you quickly find yourself attached to.

The book also crosses so many genres/issues being a blend of science fiction and fantasy with significant amounts of religious debate in between.

Northern Lights is a truly unique read, its a spellbinding novel and without doubt one of the best books iv ever read. If you havent read this book than you owe it to yourself to buy it(and the rest of the series) and experience one of the most spectacular tapestries of fantasy fiction ever written.

5.0 out of 5 stars A valuable aid and all round great book., 27 Mar 2007
I bought this book and it was a valuable aid in helping me get into medical school. The book doesnt try to spoonfeed u answers.. its more along the lines of giving you the information & guidelines needed to make your own answers and whilst there are examples of effective answers.. they are for the most part v cliched and too long.

The book teaches frameworks with which to construct your answers with, and these frameworks give u a good starting point from which to think of answers as well as providing a solid logical structure to present your answer in, this part of the book is really useful.

The rest of the book then analyses about 150 different questions ranging from the basics to nhs issues & ethics. The NHS section is very informative and provides a lot of information with which to think about, the ethics section also provides a lot of material on a wide range of ethical issues and really makes you start thinking about the technique needed to answer ethical questions. The basic questions that are analysed also help and provide you with ways/advice/tips on how to really make your answers stand out and improve them a great deal.

I had two interviews for entry into medschool this year and have got in to both unis, this book definitely helped me to acheive that and is a v worthwhile investment if you are trying to get into medschool.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Good Informative Read, 20 Mar 2007
This review is from: Learning Medicine (Paperback)
This book is quite useful for all people considering a career in medicine, it details the journey of drs from application, to medical school through to becoming an SHO and a Consultant. Little parts of the book are slightly out of date due to recent reforms but that will be corrected in the next edition.

(I own the 17th) I think this book is an excellent read for all people considering a career in medicine. For people applying to medicine, it is still a useful read but wont help u directly in your application. There is a really good chapter on the Pitfalls of drs in terms of legal matters/litigation etc and there are some useful lil bits in regards to choosing medschools/the role of drs at diff stages of their career etc, however if you are looking for a book solely with the aim of helping you get into medschool then there are better books out there, if however you want an informative unbiased insight into the career of medicine then look no further.

3.0 out of 5 stars A good read., 6 Dec 2006
This book is pretty decent... sticks to the formula in the show with the multiple plot lines/twists and generally maintains the vibes. It occurs before day 1 so its good to see the characters from day 1 all interacting together. In terms of the actual storyline.. its fairly good.. a bit cliched at some points..gettin a lil reminscent of an action film at some parts.. i think the biggest compliment that cud be made for this storyline is that it is strong enough to have been used as a plot for a season of 24. Ther is enough in the storyline that they cud hav made a season out of it.. (obv expandin on points in the book - goin into more detail than the book can etc) however whilst it is a good read, and keeps u wanting more... the biggest criticism for this book is that after reading it.. a few weeks on.. ud struggle to remember what it is about.. and that is somethng that wud never happen with the tv series(except mayb day 4)

If ur a 24 fan..def check it out.. cos it is a fun read.

Not a truly amazing one tho however.
