I was very disappointed with this DVD. It seemed to have been thrown together with little thought to layout & presentation for the different areas within the home front. There were some great bits of colour film showing the little mites being evacuated but again was thrown in a rather haphazard manner. Also, the DVD lasted 55 minutes and not the approx. 91 minutes that it states on the cover. Overall, a poor effort all round.

1.0 out of 5 stars This is not imelda staunton, 29 Aug. 2012
This poster is of Alsion Steadman and not Imelda Staunton as stated. I wouldn't buy anything from a company that doesn't know the difference between these two actresses.

3.0 out of 5 stars The charmer, 14 Oct. 2009

Although I throughly enjoyed the production of The Charmer, I was extremely disappointed that it bore little or no relation to the Patrick Hamilton novel "Mr Stimpson & Mr Gorse." Indeed even the main character's name was given as Ralph Ernest Gorse when in the book he's name is Ernest Ralph Gorse. I can't believe that Allan Prior read the books or books, as it's the middle part of a trilogy, as I could find no real similarities in the 3 main characters beyond their names. The book does not contain central Claris Manners, Harold & Phyllis Bennett nor Pamela Bennett, to whom Gorse marries in the series. It's all pure invention by Allan Prior.
If you haven't read the Gorse trilogy, then this is a very good black comedy, however, if you have read the Patrick Hamilton novels be prepared to be very disappointed.
