4.0 out of 5 stars Give it time, 5 April 2006
This review is from: The Godfather (PS2) (Video Game)
I was originally going to review this game after just a couple of hours of gameplay...
After all, it didnt have the 'grand theft auto' style gameplay I was expecting, and actually found the focus was on foot missions, with a clunky interface reminiscant of 'The Getaway'.
However, I decided to wait to give it a chance, and I'm glad I did.
Now i'm 15 hours in, 50% complete, and, well the missions are still mainly on foot based, through the clunky interface, which you get used to, but sometimes can be a handicap in sticky situations.
My main gripe is the camera, while you can move it yourself to get great views around you, when its tracking your movement it can be slow to follow a change of direction.
But those are my only real gripes, the game has the same addictiveness, and free roam style of Grand theft auto, and you will spend hours playing, and catch yourself 'just one more mission'.
The side games of assasinations and extorting buisnesses is a nice touch, and gives the game extra depth - although the interiors are very repetitive, with what seems like only about 5 on offer.
While this is handy, meaning you know your way around and where the enemies are hiding, it is a touch dissapointing and does get dull.
All in all, its a good game, flawed, but still enjoyable, and if you like GTA/Getaway style games, you will probably enjoy this.

I enjoyed previous ToCA games, but i've had this one a week and I'm bored of it. It's not that it isnt any good, its just so average...
The world tour is pretty good, giving chances for a few races in various different classes, although your forced into specific cars which can be annoying, but not as annoying as the scottish 'mentor', who just spurts random sound clips though the races...
Although, the most annoying sound is some crowd whistle (or something) which beeps every few seconds, and with the lack of background music, its enough to drive you nuts...
The difficulty starts too easy, and doesnt really change until it jumps to being really frustrating, and there isnt anything to keep you interested so you just give up...
The career was dissapointing, since its just a menu, and you have to do 10 or 15 races to unlock the next one, it gets very boring very quickly, some sort of intuitive progression would have been much better for this feature.
And that really sums up the game, even with all the different disciplines, tracks, and cars, the racing is very samey...
and the AI sucks - the race cars dont make any mistakes, but seem quite good at spinning you off if you argue over the racing line, and probably the most frustrating feature is the penalty for going onto the grass.
While a good idea to stop you cheating across chicanes, what actually happens is, if you run wide out of a corner and put 2 wheels on the grass, not only do you lose a second or two because of lack of grip, it also gives you a 5 second time penalty for 'cheating', and it does this far too often (occasionally you get away with a warning).
as for the 'realistic damage', well, thats a joke, and the mechanical damage, well thats straight off the original Colin McRae...
Its not a bad game, but it has a couple too many frustrating parts, and with games like Gran Turisimo 4 out there, this just doesnt compare...

4.0 out of 5 stars A great Alex Cross book - but dont start here, 28 Jan 2005
This review is from: London Bridges (Hardcover)
I'm a fan of the Alex Cross series, and this is another great book following the 'life and times'..
If you havent read a Cross book, dont start here, there is too much back story you need to understand these to get the plot, but if you have read a Cross book, this wont dissapoint!

5.0 out of 5 stars excellent, 20 Jan 2005
Coming from Director Mel Gibson, who knows a thing or two about the Paparazzi, this is an entrawling thriller.. which while taking you into the seedier side of the 'Celeb headlines' also demonstrates the pressures celebrities have to endure.
In this story, the central character has his daughter killed in a car crash he blames on a particular carnviorous group of pap.. and decides to exact his revenge..
Its a tense thriller, that takes you into the insanity the movie star suffers as he vents his frustrations in a lethal way..

1.0 out of 5 stars poor, 20 Jan 2005
This review is from: Liberty Stands Still [DVD] (DVD)
A 'phonebooth' clone thriller with Wesley Snipes it may be.. but its also quite bad, once the hostage situation has been set up, you quickly find it is the father of a gunned-down child holding an exec of a gun company hostage - and while the plot slowly unravels, attempting, unsucessfully to inject tension, you find yourself hanging on, in the hope of a revalation or plot twist.. and sadly, the movie does not deliver, leaving you feeling cheated and cursing for the 90 minutes of your life you will never get back..

4.0 out of 5 stars Vice city but bigger, 19 Jan 2005
Yep, this is GTA 3 Vice City II - same graphics, just bigger maps, and a few extras like planes etc....
However, dont misunderstand me, this is a great game if you are a fan of GTA, however, the cut scenes and back story are a little weak, and you'll probably want to skip them to get on with the game...

4.0 out of 5 stars Funny, 14 Jan 2005
If you still laugh at a person being hit in the groin, then this is the movie for you.
The movie is quite happy to laugh at itself, and it seems to work whether you laugh AT the movie, or WITH it, it really doesnt matter.
That said, for the more discerning, mature audience, well there really isnt anything here of substance, but you knew that already.
To sum up, the laughs keep coming, and as immature as the jokes are, you can't help but laugh!

2.0 out of 5 stars Slow, uninteresting, 14 Jan 2005
This review is from: The Terminal [DVD] (2004) (DVD)
This movie is of that genre that could be considered 'human interest', except the interest part is missing.
I think the best part of the movie is that it is very loosley based on a true story, but thats it.
When you finally realise his reason for his visit to the US, and all the hassle he went through, it does make you ask why? and the C-ZJ love interest is not very believable, along with him managing to get a job in the airport...
Not really worth watching
