5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best roman legion stories I have ever read, 31 Jan. 2015

One of the best roman legion stories I have ever read. The equilibrium between historical accuracy and fiction is finely balanced. Mark Richards seem to have the unique ability to put you right inside the souls of the main characters. The inexperience of Tribune Valerius is countered perfectly by the 'world weariness' approach to life of Centurion Marcellus. Eagerly awaiting the next book.

I was in the Royal Navy during the time that HMS Coventry and helped manage one of the support cells responsible for helping the survivors of the conflict readjust to normal life. I had the privilege of meeting some of the survivors. Captain Hart-Dyke provides the reader with an intelligent and human insight into this tragedy. If this book does not tug at the heart strings of the reader, then they cannot be human. A thoroughly excellent read and strongly recommended.

Most probably the best factual book on a combat pilot that has ever been written. General Yeager is without doubt one of the world's heros. His quiet and unassuming approach to his career is nothing short of wonderful and he is an inspiration to all generations. I sincerely hope that the General has many more years ahead of him but when he eventually moves on to a higher plain, the world will be short of one of the most gifted and talented combat pilots who ever strapped themselves into a fighter jet.

A very, very funny book. It is a shame that I left it this late in life to read Mr Wodhouse's work.

A thoroughly enjoyable 'what if' story line. Congratulations to Mr Conroy for a book that makes the reader thinks about what could have happened. The Heydrich character really comes to life and adds substance to the book.

Stephen Coonts has always remained one of my favorite authors, and the list is short. Toad Tarkington is now a Rear Admiral so I must have inadvertently missed a novel somewhere because the last time I looked, he was just a Commander. Notwithstanding, this book is typical of Mr Coonts writing abilities. A good and credible storyline which not only focuses on the principals but allows the reader an insight into the lives of the 'smaller' characters. Once picked up, this novel is extremely difficult to put down (or to close the cover if you, like me, use a Kindle!).

Grafton'e character goes from strength to strength and just when you finish a Stephen Coonts novel and you think that Grafton has done all he can in his career, you start a new book and Grafton has found new depth and character. Call me a cynic but if you follow the thread of Grafton's character through the books, I believe that Mr Coonts has a place for Grafton as the next Chairman of the Joint Chiefs, National Security Advisor and then who knows, perhaps the presidential office!
