Good app but would be better if I could resign when losing, or set up a position to start from.

4.0 out of 5 stars Go for it., 2 Aug 2014

This is an excellent value tablet that is simple to set up and have in use within a couple of minutes of getting it out of the box. The screen is excellent, certainly as good as - if not better - than any other tablet I have seen, including the new i-pads. I still prefer the Kindle Paperwhite as a book reader purely because of its lighter weight and longer life battery, but this is as good as it gets in tablets, and you get colour which is useful for magazines. I have 2 criticisms of the Fire. The first is that it could do with cameras front and back facing so that you could use it as a camera and see what you were taking a photo/video of, and the second is that I miss a little red/amber/green light to show me when it is charging up. Definitely recommended though.

You may think your general knowledge is good but this may make you think again. Good range of questions and seems up to date.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good but flawed, 31 July 2013
This overall is an excellent book which highlights the most important periods of American history from an author that obviously knows his subject and knows how to make it accessible to the reader. The only flaw in this book comes as it approaches the modern era where the personal right-wing views of the author begin to overshadow his objectivity.

1.0 out of 5 stars An apology for rape, 19 Dec 2011
This book is pathetic. A race where women cannot conceive female children kidnaps 1000 women from earth with the intention to force them to marry and have children whether they like it or not, i.e. rape. These are the good guys! Of course even though they were kidnapped and removed from earth against their will these are all good looking, strong and fit men and so its all okay. Literally within hours the women, including the "heroine", are struggling to contain their lust for their kidnappers - and feeding them a sweet "chocolate type" dessert seems to almost cause mass orgasms. As a 53 year old bloke I am hardly a feminist fighter but the idea that women will enjoy rape if the man is fit and good looking is one that was buried many decades ago. This book is hard to stomach the price of zero is far too much.

5.0 out of 5 stars A quick summary, 24 Sep 2010
I have had an Illiad book reader for 2 years now but bought the Kindle for two reasons. The first was practical, the ease of getting books and the price of those books. The second was simply to see how the technology had advanced in those 2 years. I can only say that I am not disappointed in either.

I have purchased books, newspapers and magazines and used WiFi, 3G and the GPRS fallback (we have a bad signal here) to download them. In the worst case (GPRS) it took just over one minute for a book, in the best it was around 30 seconds.

The screen is easily as readable as a standard book with the standard font being the best for myself but a large variety easily used if wanted. This, combined with its size, weight and the number of books, magazines, newspapers etc it can hold is far and away the main reason for having one of these, everything else is a bonus for me although I can see uses for the dictionaries and annotations.

The experimental addition of text to speech with the Kindle reading normal books (any books and not only audiobooks) could be a real godsend for people who find it hard to get audiobooks. It already works well, although there is a slight robotic quality to the voices, but I expect it will only improve with time.

Overall an excellent product.

4.0 out of 5 stars An excellent buy, 9 Oct 2008
This is an excellent product. The 8 inch screen makes a noticable difference over most of its 6 inch competitors. It is light, feels good to handle, is very clear in any light and generally 'does what it says on the can'. It took me about 15 minutes of reading to make it feel like a normal book. It also handles multiple formats and comes with software that can transform most document formats to pdf, which is one of the formats it reads.

The main deficiencies are not in the reader, although the prices are still steep, but in the present lack of availability of new books, although I hope this is remedied soon. There are more on US sites but some of these are not available in the UK yet.

Roll on the book revolution, a great buy for a fan of books and gadgets alike.

Absolutely excellent. I am fairly new to this kind of music but it really gripped me. It breathes life. It has the energy of rock combined with the passion of the classics. Buy it.

1.0 out of 5 stars Its a photocopy, 2 Oct 2007
If you have read other books of David Eddings then dont read this. It's almost a photocopy of the elenium series with a couple of characters from The Belgariad thrown in. If you have not read other David Eddings stuff then don't judge him on this. No more Eddings for me.
