3.0 out of 5 stars min requirements, 31 Dec 2013
This review is from: Kindle for Android (App)
Have a new kindle fire hdx and is a brilliant tablet. The app works fine on my phone but is incompatible with the old Archos Android tablet I have donated to my young children. A real shame.

booklet good. price good. sound quality acceptable for a live show by a tribute act. music and performance faithful. downside? one cd so show stops at run like hell, missing the whole finale of the show. d'oh!

3.0 out of 5 stars not as charmed as hoped, 18 Dec 2012
This review is from: Charmer (Audio CD)
Aimee Mann's albums all have the same core ingredients and that is what keeps her fans coming back for more. pop tunes, cutting lyrics and that slight air of melancholy are a winning formula - but sometimes they just feel formulaic and that's the problem with Charmer. It has been a long time coming and offers nothing new though the title track is a gem. That Charmer comes in at under 39 minutes feels like a bit of a con. When I want to listen to Aimee Mann this won't be the cd that I pick up. That'll be The Forgotten Arm.

4.0 out of 5 stars new generation, 18 Dec 2012
As has happened for many theatrical productions this product is simply a new cast recording of a known work. Fans of the original may find some of it isn't to their liking, but fresh ears will find little to complain about. The recording is crisp and for the most part is a faithful update. The extra dialogue helps the story to move along and the new musical elements that some reviewers have criticized may nod add much but do not impair the enjoyment. This new recording has its failings - in my opinion (and it is only my opinion), Ricky Wilson's acting skills leave a bit to be desired and some of the music occasionally hints at 1990's Europop, but there are also many positives. Liam Neeson is well cast and brings gravitas; Maverick Sabre channels Phil Lynott and Gary Barlow emotes well. The updated musical score has punch and feels more modern (Europop moments aside) and more sci-fi. That Jeff Wayne chose to keep his father's performance on the NASA epilogue is touching, but this is one track that really does feel out of place now. On the whole, this update won't cut it for die-hard fans of the original, but then I doubt that anything would of. For the rest of us this album offers an alternative choice when we fancy a WOTW fix.

3.0 out of 5 stars not enough singing, 29 Nov 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is recorded from a live performance and there is alot of Idina talking to the audience between tracks which detracts from the wonderful singing performances. I like to listen to CDs in the car and with the talking it's not suitable for that. Her other albums are better.

4.0 out of 5 stars back to basics, 19 Dec 2011
for the first time in recent years this actually plays as Hellraiser sequel that was written as such and not just Dimension films tacking the Hellraiser name onto a genre script to keep their licence intact. Because of this, Revelations returns to the lore created by the early films and by Barker in his original novella and is a more entertaining and thoughtful film for Hellraiser fans to get their teeth into.
Ok, Revelations has its flaws - the lack of budget most obviously, and the twist is telegraphed from early on, but the acting is up to par and Doug Bradley will be kicking himself for turning down the best Hellraiser sequel and the meatiest Pinhead role for years. Well worth the investment, even though you'll have to get it on import.
