4.0 out of 5 stars Counterpoint, 10 Mar 2009
I've read the other reviews and I take the point about the guide changing little from previous editions (which I also had) but taken on it's own merits rather than in terms of value if you already own last years, this book remains indispensible imho. Its absolutely true that it can no longer be considered as the definitive guide but when partnered with either the gramophone guide or with use of the review section of one of the music magazines websites it provides a deep review of discs available for any given piece of music and for someone like myself that is just beginning to explore off the heavily beaten track of 100 classics and the like, it is very useful. So on it's own merits a four.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb field Guide, 2 April 2003
I agree with other reviews of this that it is not a casual users book but if you want a concise but comprehensive guide to spiders in the UK with a detailed key and outstanding information on how to examine / study these species then this is the book you want. The information on needed equipment is outstanding and the species descriptions are bettered only by the superb drawings. Overall I was very impressed with this book and whilst it *isn't* a coffee table book on spiders it is a superb field guide just as it claims 'on the box'
