I use this as a means to light my upstairs landing at night - as a low energy way to have a small light on through the night.
I find its brightness just right for this purpose, but it would probably be too bright as a bedroom night light - probably too bright for a child.

A really helpful way to read the Bible - easy to understand - useful to read alongside a regular version of the Bible - helps me to understand the more difficult phrases. Good for someone new to Christianity, perhaps someone on an Alpha Course.

Beautiful binding - the Bible quotes at the bottom of each page are inspiring. But I would prefer unlined pages, without a line for the date - I prefer to write 'free-flowing'.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Hobbit is much more than 'The Hobbit', 27 Jan. 2013
I am an absolute Tolkien fanatic - was really pleased when PJ took the film again.
People bang on about how 'one small book can be made into three films'...they are missing the point.
*SPOILERS*
PJ has enriched The Hobbit by making it more of a 'back-history' piece - with clear references to 'The Silmarilion' and 'Unfinishes Tales'. In 'The Hobbit', for example, Gandalf is absent for much of the time - he is away trying to protect Middle Earth from the evil of returning Sauron - who was vanquished when the one ring was cut from his hand, but not destroyed. Elrond refers to 'the uneasy peace' since then - Sauron's spirit is gathering strength again - that is why 'Mirkwood' becomes a place of fear,(its previous name was 'The Greenwood').
It is no coincidence that the one ring 'let itself be found' just when its master was regaining strength in nearby Mirkwood.
In futre films I'm looking forward to more of The White Council (not all of whom are to be trusted even now); the battle of Dol Guldur (Mirkwood); a sight of a young Aragorn being nurtured in Rivendell; the return of the Nine and the advanced watch of The Rangers, etc.
A final point - there are shed loads of fights/scraps/battles in The Hobbit which are mentioned in a line or two on paper - this obviously takes up loads of film time.
I'm glad to have MORE of Middle Earth!

2.0 out of 5 stars Poor Gary!, 27 Mar. 2010
This review is from: The Scarlet Letter [DVD] (DVD)
Nothing like the novel.
Also, I am a Gary Oldman fan, but in this role I felt he was a damp squib!
Demi is also far too priggish!

1.0 out of 5 stars XWD ABBR., 27 Mar. 2010
I thought this book might show me the 'how tos' of cryptic crossword solving - concentrates on codes.
'Cryptic Crosswords and How to Solve Them' is the book you need!

3.0 out of 5 stars American Sci-fi, 27 Mar. 2010
This book is fine for mainstream, and mostly U.S. films.
Not many 'Noughties' films included - or 'cult' films such as Danny Boyle's 'Sunshine'.
Much focus on older Sci-fi.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cryptic Crosswords from scratch!, 27 Mar. 2010
The only book you will ever need to teach you the 'hidden mysteries' of cryptic crosswords. Takes a level by level approach, allowing you to practice.
A good brain work out!

I love Eddie Izzard, but am not sure about this 'return'.
Great for people who are new to him, but I prefer 'The Definite Article'.
Still miles better than most UK stand-up!
