Great Britain's Great War
Great Britain's Great War
by Jeremy Paxman
Edition: Hardcover
Price: 15.00

5.0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT balanced account, 25 May 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is the first "history" book I have read for many years and I found that book very accessible and readable. Paxman recounts the events leading up to, during and after the great war with what I think is a very balanced perspective. He de-bunks so of the myths that have arisen whilst not detracting from the tremendous cost in human life of the war. An excellent read and I would like to see it added to the reading list of UK schools.

2.0 out of 5 stars Spoilt by pornographic chapters, 23 Dec 2013

A good story however the "sex" chapters was no better than erotic fiction which came as a surprise. The intro on Amazon should make it clear that the book contains adult themes and material. If this was a website you would probably have to state that you were over 18 before reading the material.

A little slow and for me confusing at the start but it rapidly improved. Probably the fastes I have read a book for a LNG time!

I did not expect to be so impressed with this book! The gentle and yet powerful account draws you in and evokes a range of emotions. Great tale, great story telling. Read and enjoy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another good Dan Brown-Robert Langdon adventure., 9 Oct 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Dan Brown resisted the temptation of making the novel too formulaic. There were sufficient differences to make the plot unique and unrelated to the previous Langdon adventures. The usual interesting twists and turns with the now trademark twist towards the end.

3.0 out of 5 stars Complex but not satisfying, 9 Oct 2013

At first I struggled to see where the title came from. When the novel did pick up it moved too fast and was in places predictable. Not edged enough.

2.0 out of 5 stars Poor value., 27 April 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Having read some of the books on the series I bought this for a trip down memory lane and to catch up with Mr Mole. Frankly I was disappointed and felt that there could have been at east 1 more story in this collection edition.

5.0 out of 5 stars A pleasant surprise, 27 April 2013

I bought this book on the off-chance as the title intrigued me! It was a good decision. World events are recounted through the eyes go the hundred year old man and this is intertwined with a good old "cops and robbers" story.

This review is from: Life Of Pi (Kindle Edition)
I read the book first and then saw the film. If you thought the film was good then the book is fantastic, if you did not see the film or have not read the book then read it! The author is a great story teller and adds many twists and surprises to keep you engaged.
