4.0 out of 5 stars New author for me, 21 Oct 2014

I have never read a Linwood Barclay book before.
The plot is original and gets going pretty quickly. It starts off about teenagers and stuff they get up to, and then changes into an interesting read.
I found it difficult to put down and I read thrillers most of the time.
I will definitely try another one.

I have read quite a few Erica Spindler books and usually enjoyed them , but this is nothing more than chic lit, and totally predictable at that.
It's time Amazon started to put the date the book came out instead of the date it went on to Kindle.
I was annoyed to find at the end that it was written in 1995.
Very misleading!

A thought provoking book. I initially bought it to donate to the charity, but ended up reading it .
It's a story for children and grown ups alike.

I haven't read a Greg Hurwitz for a while, and really enjoyed this one.
True I could see some of the twists coming, but then anyone who reads a lot of crime books
would probably say the same.
Good characters and an exceptionally attractive police inspector together with an interesting story line
kept me involved.
Roll on the next book!

The Doll Maker (Byrne and Balzano Book 12)
Price: £6.99

4.0 out of 5 stars 4 or 5 stars. Not sure., 5 Sep 2014

Very unusual subject for a novel, but then that is Richard Montanari.
A book about dolls?
It dragged occasionally, but in the main was very enjoyable.
You can't fail with Byrne and Bolzano.
I look forward to the next book as it appears that the status quo is going to change .

Babazouk Blues (Captain Vernac Novels, #2)

4.0 out of 5 stars Too much jazz, 28 Aug 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is the second Vernac novel I have read and enjoyed, but the constant references to jazz really got on my nerves in this book.
I looks like there will be another so I hope the author tones it down.
I think I have passed my A levels in Armstrong, Rollins etc
Worth a read.

I found this book good until maybe the halfway mark, and then I knew what was going to happen and I just wanted to finish it.
I find it incredible that the FBI would pander in this way to a serial killer.
His other books were good, but I will be in no hurry to read another.

5.0 out of 5 stars Louise Penny is back!, 19 Aug 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I have read and enjoyed almost all of Louise Penny's books and have rated them 4to 5 stars.
After the Beautiful Mystery which I found to be repetitive and boring,I thought that was it, I didn't want to read any more of the same, but this book is right back to standard.
A very surprising plot and the comfort of Three Pines, the Bistro and the B&B is all there.
I must stress that a new reader needs to start at the beginning to " get " these books, but unless you need something to send you to sleep , I would avoid the Beautiful Mystery.

3.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing, 13 Aug 2014

I have read all of Martin Walker books and this is the first time I have not enjoyed one.
The idyllic setting in St Denis, the food and wine and social life have always conspired to raise my spirits.
I certainly didn't want to be dragged into terrorism and jihadist .
Please Martin go back to the old formula. We get enough of this in real life.
