5.0 out of 5 stars Christmas on a CD, 4 Nov. 2013

This has to be Chilcott's best yet. The new pieces, particularly The Shepherds Sing and What sweeter music, are glorious and I defy anyone not to be moved and uplifted by their soaring beauty. Chilcott has taken wonderful words and made them his own. This CD is the perfect accompaniament to Christmas. The man is a genius!

This is an outstanding book. Insightful, humorous, thoughtful - it seems as if the author has put a lifetime's observations of human nature into this book. This is one not to be missed....

5.0 out of 5 stars An outstanding and remarkable biography, 7 Oct. 2009
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
William Shawcross had done this country a huge service by this book. It serves to remind us how unbelievably lucky we are to have a Monarchy, the crucial role it has played in this country's recent history and why we must do all we can to defend it. Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother was a much-loved figure, but this book demonstrates brilliantly just why she meant as much as she did to us all. It charts her life, her joys, her sadnesses and so it charts the nation's life, its joys and its sadnesses. I defy anyone not to weep as they read of The King's death and then her own. How blessed we were that King George VI accended the throne and so she became our Queen and gave us our present Queen and our next King, The Prince of Wales.
