3.0 out of 5 stars Sweet little book for an overview of hat styles & history, 1 April 2013

This review is from: Hat Book, The (Paperback)
This book is a good little gift for anyone even vaguely interested in hats. Nicely presented in a fabric binding - would adorn any coffee table. Enjoyed the general pictorial overview of different hat styles and history but some of the images were not as inspiring as others. Needed some more spectacular images of iconic hats from the past especially. Stephen Jones' Anthology of Hats exhibition at the V&A a couple of years ago was particularly good at fulfilling this brief. However, for those who aren't as millinery-obsessed, it is a sweet little book which many will enjoy and I will keep it in my collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Essential book for Treacy fans & all lovers of sculptural art, 21 Feb 2013

Excellent book that takes you behind the scenes of probably the top professional milliner in the world. He lets us into his Aladdin's Cave workrooms where he concocts the most extraordinary and exquisite headwear creations. We also get to see the millinery delights created for the catwalk. Philip's hat blocks are beautiful art forms in their own right.
It is fascinating to see the development of Philip's work throughout the years as he continues to take millinery far beyond anything imaginable.
Wonderful photography features throughout by Kevin Davies who was allowed privileged access to the milliner over a long period. This is one of my favourite books and even if you are not a milliner, as I am, you will enjoy the journey.

500 Flowers
500 Flowers

Edition: Hardcover
Price: £11.26

4.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful book - a sweetshop of floral delights, 5 Sep 2010
This review is from: 500 Flowers (Hardcover)
If you love flowers you will love this glossy book. The photography is superb - the detail of each flower is revealed to great effect against the black background, making the images 'zing out' from the pages. The Index of botanical names and place of origin makes it simple to identify each flower.

This book shows flowers as glorious natural confectionery and you will return to its pages again and again to sample its delights!

The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie [DVD] [1969]
The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie [DVD] [1969]
Dvd ~ Maggie Smith
Price: £8.10

5.0 out of 5 stars A Classic To Own, 5 Sep 2010
An absolutely classic film which stands the test of time. Maggie Smith is excellent - Miss Brodie is inspirational and irritating in turn. Whilst inspiring her charges to be free-thinking and expansive, she nevertheless subtly seeks to indoctrinate them with her own ideas. Her egotistical mindset might well be founded on the shifting sands of uncertainty and a narrow grasp of European political affairs of the day which appeal to her overriding dramatic nature.

The supporting cast is faultless.

Certainly a film to own.
