3.0 out of 5 stars Good not Great, 18 Mar. 2014
This review is from: Tekken [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray)
First thing I should probably say is that I haven't played every Tekken game so am coming at this film without being heavily invested in any lore. That being said I enjoyed the movie for what it was, there are many, many worse adaptations of video games out there, going into this film i had no real expectations for the plot I just wanted some half decent action and that's what I got. The action in this film is well choreographed and was shot pretty well, plot wise, well you've heard it before, poor kid from the slums ends up entering a tournament for cliched reasons and fights his way through the ranks, the acting is again run of the mill, no stand out performances but I can't recall anyone who took me out of the movie by being awful either. So yeah as long as you adjust your expectations for this film accordingly you should have a good time, don't expect it to make any top 10 best lists though.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great but a little short, 18 May 2012
Lets get straight down to business, as far as the film goes it is more of the same, if thats your cuppa then great if not, sorry not gonna find anything ground breaking that will bring you into the series in this one.

Being a fan of the series I loved it, went into it expecting to be disappointed but was genuinely surprised to find out it wasn't just a cash in as far as story etc goes, the action is great, effects are decent and well what can I say it's just refreshing for a vampire/werewolf movie not to suck and be about poorly constructed love triangles, in a world where it appeared that we were heading for it to be common place for vampires to be pale gary glitters and werewolves to be as cuddly as a hamster this series has come back into the fray to show them how its done!

Only real thing I find that's lacking here is firstly an amazing story, this films one is good but its just there to carry the film really not engage you with an intelligent plot twist or anything but as I said as a device for getting from fight A to fight B it does the trick and even does a decent enough job of making the final encounter keep you invested and somewhat heavily rooting for the main characters for a reason other than these are the good guys I hope they win if you get me, this brings me to my second point, this definitely feels like the set up to the next underworld film, as I said before the the plot is decent enough but it just feels like its setting the stage for the final climactic film in the series and you kinda get the sense that if the writers did in fact have any intelligent plot twists or unique ideas they have kept it from being in this one for the next film but there are the seeds of some cool ideas in here like the shift in powers between vamps and werewolves in contrast to where both sides were in the first film, the potential cost of sentimentality etc but all of them are to be fully explored.

All in all though I very much enjoyed this film and whilst it isn't an instant classic it should do enough to satisfy fans of the series, and does has a few memorable moments (like evolutions helicopter blade scene) this one definitely worth your time, but as I said I hope they are saving all potential awesome pieces of the plot for a final climactic ending to the series as it would be a shame for all of these issues to have only been lightly skimmed over and not explored into further depth.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cullen, take notes!, 3 Feb. 2012
OK so lets get straight down to it, this is a romance between vampires and humans, this of course will lead to the twilight comparison being drawn up somewhere, don't let this put you off though, where twilight fails (essentially everywhere it possibly can) vampire knight gets right.
Unlike with twilight all the characters are instantly relate-able, it has good amount of action and also features some interesting sub plots underneath the romance triangle, a character trying to fight becoming the very thing he hates, somewhat racial tension issues between the vampires and humans, uncertain back story of the female lead, the mysterious element to the lead vampires intentions, all interwoven really well to give the story depth and keep you coming back for more.
Another thing vampire knight does well is convey vampires in the light they should be shown as, bringing across the ferality of vampires, the fact that they are at heart savage beasts when around humans despite them trying to fight it, oh and they don't sparkle thank god.

So yeah ultimately a brilliant vampire romance with more than just a love triangle going on, great art style and good pacing, seriously recommend people give this a go!

3.0 out of 5 stars A Great Film Spoilt, 10 May 2011
Okay i'm gonna keep it short and sweet. It's a great film, enjoyable plot with good action, Matt Damon is as good as ever. so the good is out of the way now i have one massive problem with it keeping it from being a 5 star film, that being the picture quality of the blu ray, theres no way else to put it other than the lighter scenes are good however the darker scenes are just dreadful, the black is really really grainy which kind of just gets in the way of the enjoyability of the film.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing but spoilt by one fact., 21 Mar. 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Ok I'm going to keep this short and sweet, this OVA is amazing, seriously, pure genius, the art style is a beautiful bridge between old and new school anime art styles, the combat is awesome, the characters are all great and well its a Gundam OVA so as per usual a fantastic story filled with tons of morally grey characters (characters back story is mainly taken care of in the other 2 episodes that have aired) and well I have to say it is really up there with the best Gundam series'. However there is one grave thing that makes me say don't buy this, despite all its awesomeness and blu-ray coming down to under £20 a pop now Beez ent continue to be.. well.... Beez and charge extortionate amounts on anything that isn't their anime legends range, I mean seriously for this episode £40 (for a 5o min episode) and well the second episode is more expensive still! seriously Beez get your act together before companies like you kill anime sales in the uk stone dead!

4.0 out of 5 stars Very Decent Anime, 1 Nov. 2010
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
OK so I'll keep this short and sweet:

Action - Very good fights that flows really nicely and frankly is just awesome!

Characters - Most of the characters are really likable, no annoying pre shippuden Naruto types running about,
you'll find yourself even caring for some of the villains in this show.

Plot - This show is very solid as far as the plot goes, however it only really takes you from A - B, its not a
Death Note, Code Geass, Gundam style plot with twists and turns, for the most part its a case of heres the
big bad guy, lets unite the nations and take him down, the straight forward plot does work well however
don't get me wrong but that is the only reason i gave this 4/5 and not 5/5 as for me a 5/5 show needs to
kick me round the face with a memorable plot twist or something.
