Exactly what you'd expect when you buy a pack of 2 scissor tweezers. What ever else can I possibly say?

1.0 out of 5 stars Not worth it, 12 Sept. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Despite what is on the cover, this is a strangely thin, small-print version of the text only. Not really suitable for anything much. I thought it would be good for reading to grandchildren but it's not.

Does what it says on the package! It is a white, foldable stick and it is light. No more to say.

3.0 out of 5 stars Shocking as a revelation of truth, 9 Aug. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
As a novel it leaves much to be desired: storylines are either obvious or signposted too enthusiastically. But it's an important subject and reveals a shocking truth about women in India .. I lived there as a young woman in the 1970s and although there was eve-teasing and undoubtedly some very nasty things going on beneath the surface, it was very much the exception.

2.0 out of 5 stars How mean and futile were lives in the 50s, 9 Aug. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Personal taste, I expect. Found it depressing and as boring as the lives depicted. Life was, according to Atkinson, mean and tawdry and joy rare. It's well written though.

5.0 out of 5 stars Terrific!, 20 Dec. 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is a great book to introduce the wonders of the natural world to a teenager - my nephew really loved it and is already planning a gap year visiting some of the far-flung places Ian Wood has visited to create these stunning photos. As it's a paperback, he'll even be able to take it with him!

5.0 out of 5 stars Thought provoking look at death and its meaning, 20 Nov. 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
We go on a journey with Yalom as he deals with death anxiety in himself and in his clients. Several interesting case histories, several useful philosophical thoughts to help us on the inevitable path. Very readable, though as in many American self-help books, tends to be repetitive. Worth reading!

4.0 out of 5 stars Modern Indian chicklit, 6 Jun. 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: 2 States (Kindle Edition)
I have read a lot of Indian-English novels of the 60s and 70s and in its way, this is very similar - 2 conservative families who are against their kids marrying out of state, caste, etc. What is different is the free love aspect, never mentioned 40 years ago, and perhaps not happening very much then. Fairly stock characters, a la Mills & Boon. Quite an entertaining read, but forgettable.

2.0 out of 5 stars Dumbing down the rabbit hole, 28 Feb. 2010
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is obviously written to amuse and engage recalcitrant American teenage students. There is some good and interesting stuff in some of the essays but the style jars with me. Many of the pieces use a jerky and 'handheld video' approach, cutting sentences up into tiny fun bites. Unlike Martin Gardner's original Annotated Alice which sought to explain to an American audience but also had masterly mini-essays on the philosophical points. It is interesting only for its curiosity value.

An excellent book for spotlighting the differences between people born in different sun signs, you will be amazed at how true the thumbnail characters are. Destined to change the mind of any sceptic!
