3.0 out of 5 stars Good radio let down by dismal battery, 2 Jan. 2013
This radio is a nice compact size (about the size of an iPod Classic, but a bit thicker) and is light. It feels well made and fairly robust. The front controls feel a little bit flimsy, especially the central jog control, which doesn't always respond when pressing it to select stations. The orange backlit display is nice and clear but although the matrix display of the station names and details is easy to read, some of the icons in the display are very small and a little difficult to read at night.

The radio tunes in well to DAB stations and reception is excellent, especially noticeable with music stations which produce clear, near-CD quality sound. I have used the radio at home and also whilst out walking and in town and the reception and sound quality in all cases is very good. There is occasional unavoidable interference, which seems most noticeable when in the vicinity of vehicles like buses which are presumably transmitting on radio frequencies.

The huge let-down of the radio is its battery. First of all, the battery looks like a large piece of chewing gum that has been wrapped in paper and is nothing like the modern batteries that are found in mobile phones for example. The battery also has to be connected by the user, which makes sense to avoid it losing charge whilst in storage, but having to connect a flimsy wire with a fiddly plastic connector in a 21st century piece of technology seems like a real hark back to the 1980s!

The battery will supposedly give "up to" 24 hours usage on DAB. I charged the battery fully, which took several hours, to achieve only around six to eight hours charge and after showing half full the battery rapidly went down to zero charge and the radio switched itself off. I tried several charges but was getting nowhere near 24 hours use, even listening to the same station on low volume in a good signal area. In the end I returned the radio to the store for a refund.

Overall the radio seems good and I may have just been unfortunate and got a dud battery, but it's such a basic component that seems to have been woefully neglected in the case of an otherwise good product.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good mechanical watch, 17 May 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I bought this watch because I'm a fan of automatic watches in general and Seiko 5 automatic watches in particular. My other Seiko 5 watch is over 20 years old and still works fine despite never having been serviced.

The watch case, dial and hands are well made and have a quality feel to them. I've had it for a few weeks now and it keeps very good time and the power reserve seems to be about 30 hours.

I knocked a star off because the metal bracelet doesn't have the same quality feel or finish as the watch itself and, in my opinion, lets it down. The bracelet is very light in weight and feels "tinny" rather than solid and chunky. Personally it's not a problem as I intended to fit a leather strap to the watch HIRSCH Modena L, Alligator Grain, Contrast Stitching Watch Strap in Blue, 20 mm, Steel Buckle. This strap compliments the colour of the dial and gives the watch a much classier feel.

Removing the metal bracelet is fairly easy using a spring bar tool Spring Bar Tool - Watch Strap Adjuster / Remover and the bracelet itself can be adjusted on the deployment clasp, which allows length adjustment of about 1cm without having to remove links.

Microsoft Compact Optical Mouse 500 V2 - Pomegranate Red
Microsoft Compact Optical Mouse 500 V2 - Pomegranate Red

5.0 out of 5 stars Great mouse for netbook, 21 April 2012
I bought this after returning Kinobo Mini Mouse with scroll wheel for Laptops XP/Vista/Windows 7 because the scroll wheel didn't work properly.

I plugged the Microsoft mouse into my netbook (Windows 7 Starter) and it installed itself, taking a few minutes. The mouse works fine and can easily be adjusted for things like pointer speed and button configuration.

In comparison to the Kinobo mouse this one feels slightly better finished off but is still made of very light plastic, although for me this is not a problem. Size-wise the mouse is roughly 8.5cm long and about 3cm high. It does seem a little small after using a full size mouse but I've soon got used to it and it's not a problem. The cable is roughly 60cm long which is ample for me as it's plugged into the right-hand side of my netbook. Some reviewers have commented that the cable is not long enough and I think this would certainly be the case if you only have spare usb ports on the left-hand side of your computer (unless you're a south paw, of course).

The mouse emits a constant glow through the fairly thin plastic case and this becomes brighter when the mouse is active. Personally I don't mind this, but I can imagine that some people might find this annoying and it makes it look like a giant electric beetle!

I've been using the mouse for a few days now and I'm very pleased with it and would definitely recommend it for netbooks and laptops.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed, 21 April 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I bought this for a netbook as it's small and cheap. There's not much to say about its construction - it's made of fairly cheap plastic as you'd expect for £2.99 and also very light. The finish is also what you'd expect for the price.

The mouse installed itself on my netbook (Windows 7 Starter) very quickly and seemed to work fine until I used the scroll wheel which only worked intermittently. At such a cheap price dodgy functionality is perhaps to be expected, but an intermittent scroll wheel would quickly become extremely frustrating, so I sent the mouse back.

For a few quid more I bought Microsoft Compact Optical Mouse 500 V2 - Pomegranate Red which seems much better and functions properly.

HIRSCH Camelgrain L, No Allergy, Calfskin, 15 Brown, 16 mm, Steel Buckle
HIRSCH Camelgrain L, No Allergy, Calfskin, 15 Brown, 16 mm, Steel Buckle

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent quality, 5 April 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This strap is very well made from quality materials. The leather has a nice grained finish and the stitching is neat and precise. Although the leather is not especially thick it is slightly padded so it doesn't feel flimsy. The buckle is also well made and has a quality feel.

The lining of the strap is very smooth and made from Hirsch's skin-friendly high-tech no-allergy leather and is water resistant. The buckle is also no-allergy and nickel-free.

The strap looks and feels like a quality item and is both stylish and comfortable. Definitely worth paying a bit extra.

5.0 out of 5 stars Retro "man bag", 5 April 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I bought this bag for work so I could carry files and also a lunch box and bottle of water.

It's very well made; the canvas is tough but pliable so the bag isn't stiff. The strap is made of durable webbing and the metal rings are strong and well made. The three zips also seem to be of good quality and don't stick or snag, which can sometimes happen with cheaper zips.

Size-wise the main compartment is big enough to easily accommodate a couple of A4 folders with room to spare for a lunch box etc. There are flat, zipped document pockets front and back and a mobile phone pouch inside. There are also two cargo-style pockets on the outside of the main compartment, hidden by the main flap.

I really like the retro styling too!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great tool for the price, 5 April 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is an excellent tool if, like me, you occasionally want to change the strap on your watch.

Obviously at such a low price it isn't the same quality as a Bergeon spring bar tool Spring Bar Remover Tool Bergeon Swiss or even a cheaper Hirsch one, but at roughly 20 times cheaper it will do fine for me.

I have only used the forked end and the other end of the tool, a bracelet pin remover, is a little bendy so I would be a bit hesitant to use it for fear of breaking it and getting it stuck inside a bracelet link.

Ultimately, it does the job and is much better than trying to remove spring bars with a small penknife blade, which nearly always leads to a scratched watch case and bleeding fingers!

5.0 out of 5 stars Distinctive and different, 28 Feb. 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I first bought this fragrance a few years ago in France and it's something I've never seen in the shops in the UK.

I'm not very good at describing perfume and certainly can't tell the difference between low notes, mid notes and high notes, but this has a zingy, zesty flavour which is very refreshing, although not as lemony as Lacoste Original by Lacoste Aftershave Splash 50ml which has a strong citrus aroma.

The price was very good too for 125ml and, despite being described as "SLIGHTLY DAMAGED BOX", both the box and bottle were in perfect condition. Definitely one to recommend.

2.0 out of 5 stars Slow, very slow!, 1 Nov. 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Nightwatch [DVD] (DVD)
I bought this film because Sofie Gråbøl is in it and, after watching her in The Killing, I thought this earlier film might also be a taut, suspenseful thriller. Unfortunately, the film never really gets going: there is no real action as such and the horror element is so underplayed that there is no shock value at all.

The story is actually quite clever and the plot hints at several possible interesting twists and turns which, sadly, never materialise. I found myself constantly hoping for something to spark my excitement. Eventually the killer was revealed but without any sense of explanation as to why a character introduced at the start of the film had developed into a psychopathic serial killer.

A review on the dvd box puts Nightwatch in the same league as "Saw" and "Seven" and even hints at it being their forerunner, which seems very ambitious.

If you want a clever and suspenseful thriller, watch "Seven"; if you want gore, watch "Saw", it's as simple as that.

3.0 out of 5 stars No improvement in reception, 19 July 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This product is well made and was dispatched quickly and at a good price by the seller.

Unfortunately there was no improvement at all in the FM reception to my analogue radio over the current aerial, which is a piece of wire pushed into the aerial socket! It was doubly annoying as both the ribbon aerial and the aerial socket on the radio have female coaxial connectors, so I also had to buy a male-to-male coaxial adapter.
