5.0 out of 5 stars Soul gems, 1 Dec. 2009
This is a very fine set of soul gems, a great addition to any collection. Good comprehensive sleevenotes, packed with useful information. Another class release from Kent records.

5.0 out of 5 stars Groove at it's best, 5 Oct. 2009
This review is from: Curtom Soul Trippin' (Audio CD)
I love this album, it is the embodiment of everything good about Curtom records of the 70's.
Classy tunes galore and beautiful arrangements.

1.0 out of 5 stars Nasty piece of plastic, 18 Feb. 2009
I was was seduced by the product description and thought this was ideal for long journeys where my Itouch could be charged, wireless connection to my car speakers, etc.

Firstly, the item will not stay up straight, the fm transmitter is poor with constant interference.

The whole thing is a nasty piece of plastic.

3.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good for the price, 12 Aug. 2008
The 4Gb 2.4" TFT Audio Pro (Samsung Memory) Spark USB 2.0 MP4 Player is a substantial bit of kit with "pretty good" features, for the price, and I suppose, that sums it up - for the price.
Problem I have is the display, very cheesy icons and I find the navigation not the best and as for the user manual - absolutely useless. A photocopy with font size 2 written in pigeon English.

A commendable 3 stars.

3.0 out of 5 stars Salvation in a disc, 1 Jun. 2005
My heart sank when I played disc 1 of this compilation, as the tracks are exactly the type of Modern Soul I dislike.Inane lyrics, dodgy melodies and too reliant on a funky bassline.
Disc 2 is a different matter, Crossover soul at its best, great tunes and heartfelt performances.
All in all Salvation in a disc, but cannot give more than 3 stars

5.0 out of 5 stars Essential Compilation, 10 Sept. 2004
I didn't think it would be possible for Mr Godin to match let alone improve on the brilliance of Volume 3, but incredibly he's done it again and surpassed his previous releases.
Everything here sits so well together,an absolute joy from track 1 to track 25.
Gems such as My Baby by Garnett Mimms and The day after Forever by Paul Kelly are personal favourites, but that does not detract from the quality of product here.
One thing puzzles though: why on earth was 'You Make Me Feel Good'by Lawrence & Jaibi shelved in 1970? What a stunner!.
The usual great liner notes are here, including a marvellous soul epiphany from Kevin McCardle.
Buy it today.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stunning, 10 Feb. 2004
This review is from: Just the Beginning (Audio CD)
What an incredible collection of songs to have on one disc!.
Philip Mitchell has of course a great pedigree, his tunes covered by all the soul giants, but to hear performances from the man himself is a treat. To think all tracks are previously unreleased, and of such quality is astounding. Not one filler.
Well done Garry Cape of Grapevine for facilitating this project.
A must have CD.
