5.0 out of 5 stars 95% on Rotten Tomatoes - for a reason!, 10 Jun 2014

Not sure what some of the other reviewers were expecting, but this is one of the best "found footage"-style films I've seen, with an 18 minute central sequence that had me crawling into the cushions of the sofa. Bobcat Goldthwait shows the imitators how it's done. No shaky camera either - just good honest Blair Witch-style storytelling. Recommended!

4.0 out of 5 stars Not what I ordered..., 3 Jun 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I ordered a Flashmob, and expected dozens, if not hundreds of people turning up. Instead, I got a battery-powered mop. And the only person who turned up was the Amazon guy who delivered it. I asked if I had any friends, but he said people who work at Amazon have to make their deliveries on their own. Having said that, the mop is great for wiping up spills, such as tears when you don't get what you ordered.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best value iPod case money can buy, 27 Feb 2014

A friend of mine had one of these, which he used to mount an iPad to the headrest of his car, so his 2-year-old could watch her favourite shows while they drove - turning an iPad into one of those old portable DVD player things. When I bought this one, I found that not only was it perfect for in-car entertainment, but it's so brilliantly designed it has plenty of other uses as well – and it seals up perfectly when not in use, ingeniously using the same Velcro straps. The button cutaways are all in the right place, and overall it seems to have been designed with the same user-friendly thinking as an official Apple product - but at a fraction of the price. Brilliant!

4.0 out of 5 stars The Icelandic basis for the upcoming film "Prince Avalanche", 20 July 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
If you've heard about the Paul Rudd/Emile Hirsch indie "Prince Avalanche", you may be curious to know that it's virtually a word-for-word remake of this charming existential Icelandic comedy-drama, the 'story' (it's more of a rambling road movie) of two hopeless bottom-feeders whose job is to paint the roads in the bleak, volcanic rural wastes of Iceland. Naturally, this makes for some stunning cinematography (as in the remake), but it's really the relationship at the heart of this bittersweet Nordic 'bromance' that you'll remember.

3.0 out of 5 stars Why is the DVD bleeped?, 24 April 2013

Given how strong some of the situations depicted in Louis CK's award-winning comedy series are, why is the bad language bleeped?

1.0 out of 5 stars Utter rubbish!, 23 Aug 2012
Not fit for purpose - it counts the coins correctly about 5% of the time, and of course when it gets something confusing (like, say, a 20p or 50p, or come to think of it, any coin of any kind at any time - it's that rubbish), it resets itself to 88,888.88 and you have to start all over again. WHY BOTHER? You may as well stick a piece of paper on a piggy bank and count as you go - and put the fiver you spend on this in the bin. (Or, if you're smarter, in the piggy bank)

4.0 out of 5 stars Fair game, 14 Dec 2010
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars

Hmm, Settlers of Catan on the DS - it sounds too good to be true. But actually it's not bad - a fair representation of the game, a little bit fiddly, and a few times you wish you could skip sequences they make you wait for, but overall pretty good. The individual games are good, with random board set-ups and intuitive controls (no buttons, it's all stylus-based), and the campaign is tough but fair. The only thing i found a little frustrating was that the opponents ALWAYS pick one of YOUR hexes when they roll a 7, so they always rob you, not the other computer players - which is a bit biased, especially as the opponents are no slouches! I found that if you just don't ever trade with them (unless YOU need something from THEM), it slows their roll a bit!

Overall, a fair representation of Settlers on the DS which I've given 4 stars mainly because the mechanics seem to have got it right.

The Real Kate: A Personal Biography Of Katharine Hepburn

4.0 out of 5 stars Empire magazine review by David Hughes, 11 July 2010
After acclaimed, intimate studies of Mae West, Joan Crawford, Ingrid Bergman, Bette Davis, Hitchcock and Wilder, Chandler's Personal Biography series continues with yet another rich subject: Katharine Hepburn. Based on a series of recordings made over many years, Chandler tells her extraordinary story, from her teenage brother's suicide, through her unprecedented Hollywood career (including four Academy Awards) in such films as The Philadelphia Story and The African Queen, to her battle with Parkinson's disease. Written primarily in Kate's own words, her inimitable voice can be heard throughout.
