3.0 out of 5 stars Pass the Brandy, 31 May 2013

You may well need a reviving snifter after attempting this.
The science is good but a bit too wordy and self indulgent.
The accompanying story is to little and too thin to lighten the heavy dough of the 'Science'
Just because the man is a genius does not mean that his and allied works should not be fully read and shortened and/or modifying suggestions made to improve the readers experience.
Yes we WILL read all his works and addenda but it would be nice if it were overseen and revised/made tighter and edited for the sake of the reader.
Even Milche Cows should produce quality product not milked to death just for profit.
Sorry not up to Terry's high standard.
Said in sadness not malice.

4.0 out of 5 stars For every Disworld fanatic's bookshelf, 31 May 2013

To be dipped into and savoured and occasionally to be consulted to settle arguements and refresh the memory.
However, "The Right Honourable Miss Alice Band" Head of Mantis House who teaches Traps, Locks and Edificeering and lists her hobby as Stealth Archaeology, is noticably hard to find, and not in the index, despite being worthy of artistic representations in the DiscWorld Lexicography as sketched by Paul Kidby in "The Art of Discworld".
One for the converted

3.0 out of 5 stars A missed opportunity, 31 May 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I love Falco and Lindsey Davis but Lindsey has been so intent on getting a divorce from Falco that poor old Alba never has a conversation with her adopted father or mother or even her grandparents in case it harps back to Falco.
If it is all to be from a female angle then why were neither of her grandmothers involved or any of her strong-minded aunts?
I am afraid that the plot became too predictable, unlike the Falco series, as everything seemed to be flagged up in advance and Alba became unbelievable.
A great opportunity missed. Sad.

As we get older we all know what is to come. This book is funny and poignant and we can all recognise either where we are going or where we hope never to find ourselves or our friends. Well worth a read
