5.0 out of 5 stars Classic Rock with Soul, 17 Mar. 2009
This review is from: Somebody's Watching (Audio CD)
Got this latest Rare Bird Esoteric remaster a couple of weeks ago, superb job done with a clear as a bell sound. This being Rare Bird it goes without saying that the musicianship is top of the range with Steve Gould once again demonstrating what a fine singer he is and David Kaffinetti adding the brilliant signature Rare Bird electric piano/keyboard "sound".This cd like the previous album Epic Forest is full of great soulful classic rock songs favourites are Somebody's Watching,Lonely Street(a better version than the one included on Rare Bird's next album Born Again)the sublime More and More and Hard Time!!!One last point,Rare Bird were no ones "Poor Man"..they were a fine band who simply for whatever reason never got the recognition their brilliant music deserved!!! 5 stars!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Yet another fine collection of songs from Rare Bird, 15 Dec. 2008
This review is from: Born Again (Audio CD)
Esoteric have remasterd another Rare Bird gem...this time Born Again get's the treatment and what a fine job they've done.Rare Bird were a superb band both in their original guise as one of the forerunners of progressive rock or in this classic rock style..their musicianship can't be faulted and in Steve Gould(vocals,Lead guitar,Bass) and David Kaffinetti(keyboards) they had two high class musicians who should have had far more success with this band than they had.All the songs are good but the outstanding ones in my opinion are Peace of Mind,Redman,Lonely Street and Last Tango in Beaulah. If you like high class soft rock try wont be disappointed!!!5 stars...

5.0 out of 5 stars A Soul Rock classic, 13 Jun. 2008
This review is from: Ceremony (Audio CD)
What a surprise this Cult cd was, having read so many bad reviews of this album i wasn't holding out much hope of it being any good, well the critics were badly wrong, this has to be one of the most underrated records i've ever come across.Ceremony is a sizzling rock album with soul with more staying power than Sonic Temple IMHO.It also has one of the best Soul rock songs i've ever heard in "Sweet Salvation",the melody is superb and the lyrics sublime... add to this several out and out rockers such as the title track ,Wild Hearted Son,Full Tilt and White. If you like classic rock with a large dose of soul, buy this now.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Cult's best album, 8 Jun. 2008
This review is from: Sonic Temple (Audio CD)
I'm actually giving Sonic Temple four and a half stars as a couple of the later tracks could be classed as filler.
I think the one thing this cd has above all else compared with other Cult cd's i've got, is soul,it's there in spadefuls in the songs Edie and the sublime Sweet Soul Sister, add to this the superb out and out rockers Fire Women ,Sun King and Soldier Blue and you have the ingredients to make a fantastic rock album. If you like classic rock with soul then think no more ,order Sonic Temple now!

5.0 out of 5 stars Paul Rodgers.... blues/rock singing at it's best!, 15 July 2007
This review is from: Live In Glasgow (Audio CD)
This cd is about as good as it gets!Pauls singing gets better with age and the band he's put together are very very good.As a big Free fan i loved his selection of songs for this set, which includes the sublime Free song "Be My Friend" sung and played to perfection.Other Free gems not performed for years by Paul are "I'll Be Creepin","Ride on a Pony" "The Stealer" and the magnificent "Fire and Water" all played with the passion of the late great Paul Kossoff.Seventeen year old lead guitarist Kurtis Dengler looks a real talent and does Koss proud with some searing blues rock playing along with ex heart guitarist Howard Leese. This is a five star performance from Paul and his band and this cd is highly reccomended!
