Do You Think That's Wise...?: The Life of John Le Mesurier
Do You Think That's Wise...?: The Life of John Le Mesurier
by Graham McCann
Edition: Paperback
Price: 6.79

5.0 out of 5 stars Would you mind awfully reading this book. That's most kind, 24 Feb 2014

Another Graham McCann triumph. He captures the essence of Le Mez and you could almost think he was there when it all happened. Having already done a very good biography of Dad's Army he manages to do another section on the show without resorting to recycling his previous book.

A classic story directed with style by the legendary Douglas Camfield. The last story with Tom, Lis and Ian is well worth the watch.

5.0 out of 5 stars the End of the Earth - or an Earth, 2 Oct 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Considered by many (including this reviewer) to be Jon Pertwee's finest Doctor Who story. A project to drill to the core of the Earth to release “Stahlman’s Gas” yields a deadly green slime that transforms those who touch it into savage primordial creatures. Seeking to get the TARDIS working again the Third Doctor uses power from the drilling complex and finds himself transported to a parallel Earth. This is a fascist state in which the Doctor struggles to stop the drilling from bringing about the end of the Earth…
This is a story in which the UNIT regulars get to play their darker alter-egos and are superb. Well worth a viewing and the epic 7-part length works well wit more than enough story to tell.

5.0 out of 5 stars Classic Horror, 2 Oct 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
The first transmitted Philip Hinchcliffe produced Doctor Who story, which builds up the body horror almost from the start. The parasitic Wirrn battle to take control of Nerva, which contains survivors of an Earth ravaged by solar flares, who are held in suspended animation. Tom Baker hits the ground running with an astonishing performance, ably suported by Elisabeth Sladen as Sarah Jane Smith and Ian Marter as Harry Sullivan. The reviewer's first memory of being scared by Doctor Who is of a Wirrn falling out of a cupboard at the end of episode 1!

An underrated story. Michael Robbins as Richard Mace is a joy in it. Just sit back and enjoy when buying.

4.0 out of 5 stars Letts have a good read, 12 Feb 2012
A very interesting and informative read from the much missed and very talented Barry Letts. It's also sad because you reach 1972 in the book and look forward to more from Barry. Letts (sorry) hope there is more to come posthumously.

4.0 out of 5 stars Red Devil Rogues, 12 Feb 2012
Apart from a few bits already within Jim White's Always in the Running it's an amusing read. The Mickey Thomas and Docherty sections are especially funny. Recommended.
