Potential Project: Mindfulness

1.0 out of 5 stars No substance to this app, 10 Sept. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
All this consists of is a 10 & 20 min so-called guided meditation and one 'silence with bells'. The woman's voice is grating when it should be soft and gentle. There is no guidance apart from telling you to count your breath during the time. You are then instructed to continue this counting for the next 7 min by yourself in silence. There is no background noise to help you relax. Then the woman speaks half-way through telling you to remember to count. This was very distracting. At the end you are told to open your eyes and then it just stops dead. There is no explanation about mindfulness as a technique or how to use it in your daily life. This is a very poor construct. Definitely not worth the price, as even if it were free it would be a waste of time.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not enough depth to be useful as a healthcare practitioner, 4 April 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I agree with the other reviewer, this is very disappointing. There is a distinct lack of practical information & application that I would expect from a book linked to the Institute of Biomedical Science. For example: there is no description of how ABO grouping for patients is performed, and there is absolutely no information on antibody identification (it is mentioned in passing in the brief chapter 'ABO and D grouping and antibody screening'). These are the fundamentals of any blood bank practice yet they are barely touched on. Very strange!
There are also some silly errors made with some of the photographs of blood components & the labelling: p102 a standard unit of FFP has been mislabelled as 'methylene blue treated for neonatal use', p103 a pooled cryoprecipitate unit has been mislabelled as 'cryodepleted plasma' and on p104 a clearly labelled apheresis platelet has been mislabelled as a 'pooled platelet'. These sorts of errors do not fill me with confidence for the accuracy of the rest of the book!
If you are looking for an introduction to blood bank practices this is not the book to get. In fact, although it is an international publication, the ISBT Science Series 'Introduction to Blood Bank Technology'(Armstrong et al, vol 3 No.2, 2008) is far more useful and it's available as a free download from the wiley online library (search online).

Tovolo Tea Infuser, Green

3.0 out of 5 stars Tea leaves escape quite a bit., 6 Jan. 2012
I have recently started making my own blend of spiced red bush tea. This involves snipping open tea bags & adding my own spices, then keeping it in a tea caddy to use as loose-leaf tea - this is far cheaper than buying the ready made spiced tea bags.
I received this infuser as a gift & I thought it would be great. However, lots of the tea leaves escape into the cup. This doesn't bother me too much but it's not really the point of putting your tea in the infuser, just for it to come out again while brewing.
I think if you are using whole leaf tea rather than 'tips' this won't be a problem.
Also, because it's quite large when you take it out of your cup you'll find it's not actually a full cup.
It looks lovely but my old battered stainless steel mesh version is far better at the actual job!

5.0 out of 5 stars 'Sweet'!, 23 Aug. 2010
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I bought this as a birthday present for my 9 year old niece. Her reaction: 'Sweet!'. She's a bit of a tomboy. Loves the 'aquamarine' colour light function (as she called it). Very happy with this indeed.

4.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant but you need a steady hand, 29 April 2009
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I bought this to use as a training tool & it is indeed simple to use with great results. However, this version does not come with a stand that you can use while taking the pictures. Unfortunately because of the nature of the equipment it does require complete stillness to take a sharp picture. This is next to impossible without a stand or clamping device of some kind. A very unfortunate decision of the manufacturer to remove this in this later model.Still a lovely thing though!

5.0 out of 5 stars Do not buy any other bag!, 24 Oct. 2006
What can I say? This bag is truly designed for purpose. For the travelling photographer this is an absolute delight. It has so many great features, all of which work!

The best part is the slingshot. Being able to have your camera ready without taking off the bag is brilliant. The bag is designed so everything is to hand in the 'front' position (it also gives you extra support in this position), & yet in the 'back' position everything is nicely padded, won't fall out & doesn't weigh heavy on one shoulder.

There are some nice extras, like the LCD screen protector, & the waterproof, hideaway cover is very useful (especially on any rambling you may do), the bag can be covered & protected in seconds.

There is room for keys, money & phone. Sandwiches & drink would be a struggle! This bag is very compact, if you carry lots of lenses you may want the 200 version. There are some external loops that a tripod could be clipped to (I haven't tried yet).

The bag is listed for a digital camera but you could easily fit a film SLR, lenses & spare film in this too.

Quite simply, this is the best camera bag I have ever used!
