Ladies Mens Knitted Tube Scarf Snood Cowl Hood Infinity Loop Headwear Cream Black Fairisle Fair Isle Snowflake
Ladies Mens Knitted Tube Scarf Snood Cowl Hood Infinity Loop Headwear Cream Black Fairisle Fair Isle Snowflake

4.0 out of 5 stars Soft & lightweight - a nice-looking Scarf / Snood in an attractive design, 10 Dec. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Very pleased with this "infinity scarf"/snood, it is lovely & soft, lightweight yet quite warm - though it's a bit narrow and also not really bulky enough for wrapping oneself up on a very cold day.. The label says the material is 100% polyester - it seems similar to 'acrylic' - it is slightly stretchy, and it is in a very fine knit, double layer (so none of those raw edges you can get on some snoods/scarves - it has been finished well). It is good quality, and the fabric has a nice black-on-cream 'Fair Isle'-type design.

The scarf is lightweight and can be worn in quite a variety of styles - simple scarf, double scarf, snood/cowl etc. I could imagine wearing it indoors too - those cold winter mornings in the kitchen! It is however only about 175mm / 7" across, so it's not that wide, which is why I would opt for something heavier and broader on a really cold day. The 'loop' (all the way round) measures about 60" in total.

The packaged item easily fits in the post/through a letterbox, and it would make a nice gift.
I received mine by Royal Mail, within just 3 days of ordering.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lovely photos of Scottish Wildlife in wild settings - an excellent quality calendar, 3 Sept. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Another gorgeous calendar from Colin Baxter - this one featuring fabulous photos of Scottish Wildlife in lovely natural settings, through the seasons.

I bought it as an early Xmas gift (to make up a recent "mixed order" to £20-worth, so as to get the free delivery.. N.B. calendars can also qualify as part of a "£10-worth of books" order) - and I may well have to get another one for myself... I've been to the wilder parts of Scotland several times, and seen most of the wildlife featured (except for the Ptarmigan, the Mountain Hare and the Pine Marten) and it's great to be reminded with these excellent quality photos.

Other birds and mammals featured are Crested Tit, Otter, Osprey, Red Squirrel, Bottle-nose Dolphin, Red-throated Diver, Atlantic Puffin, Common Seal and Wild Goat. The photos are very clear and well-defined, and each image has been thoughtfully/artistically composed. The Red Squirrel is probably my favourite :-)

The days and dates are clearly shown (and it is helpful that Saturday and Sunday are together rather than split) - there is also plenty of space to write in for each day. Phases of the moon are unobtrusively shown, along with important dates, both UK and selected international ones. The paper and print quality are of a high standard too.

I have sent Colin Baxter calendars to quite a few people over the years - they make a great gift - and the recipients are always delighted with them as the photography is superb.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great product - lightweight, very comfy - and keeps you warm and dry !, 23 Aug. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is a good quality product and at a very reasonable price - I paid just £2.45 each for mine, with free p+p. They also arrived all the way from China within just 9 days of ordering!

The mat seems waterproof (and may even be snow and ice-proof.. ;-) Plus, with a raised bobbly surface, air is trapped to keep you warm as well - whilst still being very soft and comfy to sit or kneel on. Very useful for when out walking - in all weathers, any time of the year, when you want to take a break and perhaps sit on the grass or perch on a rock. I do a lot of Nature-watching too, and it's great to have this to sit on then (especially as it can involve quite an amount of waiting for the wildlife to show up..) Useful to kneel on when gardening too - - or for camping, and indeed for any outdoor events, e.g. music festivals where you have to sit on the ground, or sports events where the seats can be a bit hard...

The mat is quite robust, yet very lightweight (it weighs next to nothing - so be careful it doesn't blow away when you stand up !) It folds down very neatly to about 9.5 x 27 cms (and less than 4 cm thick) and fits easily into most bags and backpacks. Fully opened out it measures about 39 x 27 x 1cm. I bought two of the purple one, it's a great colour (and the underside is black).

I've had a few different types of these "sit mats" - - you can pay a lot more for them, but as I have a habit of every now and then walking off and leaving mine behind, I didn't want to pay too much this time. With this in mind I bought the two, and am very happy with my purchase. Highly recommended :-)

5.0 out of 5 stars VERY popular with the ducks and swans !!, 17 Aug. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Oh Wow !! The Swans and Ducks on my local nature walk absolutely l-o-v-e this tasty, healthy food (much better for them than bread) and they l-o-v-e me as well !! Moorhens will also take the granules, when they can get a look-in...

Currently a family of mum and 4 nearly full-grown juvenile Mallards (I've known them since they were tiny) will literally come charging towards me from as far as 100 metres away - they have become quite tame, and, once they have scoffed the lot, they will keep following me, ever hopeful of a few more tasty morsels... a bit awkward sometimes (and terrible if I forget to take some with me!)

I was relieved in a way when a pair of swans that had been on the watercourse for several months, cleared off elsewhere in the late spring, they were getting a bit aggressive, hauling themselves out of the water and stomping after me, and hissing when the food ran out..! (P.S. September now, and the swans have returned.... oh dear..!)

The birds will take the food both on the land / sprinkled in the grass, and in the water (which is preferable as it can sometimes get a bit stuck in their gullets without some liquid to help it down). The first 5 kg pack I bought, the granules (each about the size of a small pea) floated well, but those in the second pack seem to sink after less than a minute or so - - this is OK if the water is shallow, the ducks seem happy to upend and grub about for every last morsel (quite entertaining too) - but, in deeper water some food could be wasted, unless you throw only a small amount at a time, so that it all gets scoffed before it sinks.. (Maybe this was a one-off issue with this particular pack - I will update on it due course.
** Update - November 2015 - the third pack I have bought - and the granules in this one seem to float well / do not sink :) **
It's great fun anyway, and nice to know that this food is actually good for them.

5.0 out of 5 stars THE Best-Tasting Beans ! Organic, and the cans contain No aluminium., 6 Jan. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I think Blackeye Beans are among THE best-tasting of all the pulses - slightly sweet and kind of 'earthy' and comforting too (and not at all like Kidney beans and their close relatives such as Pinto beans, which have a sharper flavour that I do not like at all). I cook with these fairly often, making a variety of savoury vegetarian/vegan dishes. They also make a nice 'topper' - simply mixed with raw garlic, ginger and yoghurt - for quick steamed vegetable and rice meals. Good added to Ratatouille too, for a shot of protein - and very nice as part of a salad, e.g. with chopped red peppers and sliced spring onions etc.

I find the lengthy soaking and cooking process for dried beans a real faff, and the results are often not that great after all that effort... (it's easy to overcook them, and in my experience they are often not particularly flavoursome either). Anyway, because they are Organic, these Biona Blackeye Beans have a great full flavour - and the texture is just right too - and it is SO-O much easier to just get them out of a can, ready-cooked to perfection ;-)

I was concerned that I might be eating too many tinned pulses, and therefore ingesting too much Aluminium - - so I emailed Biona 3 or 4 years ago to ask about their cans, which do look to have a protective coating, or something, inside. This was their informative reply: << Our cans are not aluminium, but made of ''tinplate'', which is a base of steel overcoated with a very thin layer of tin. Dependent on the product this tin layer is further coated by an inert epoxy lacquer. Therefore there is no risk of being exposed to aluminium with Biona Organic Beans. >>
Good to know! :-)

The local Health store often runs out of stock of these Blackeye Beans, as they do seem to be particularly popular - so it seemed worthwhile to bulk buy this pack of 12 cans (the first pack I bought had a 'use by' date of about 20 months on each can, with the second pack it was 13 months). They arrived fairly soon after ordering, well-packaged and with no dents in the cans. Very pleased with the purchase - a good quality, versatile and great-tasting product, and at a good price - highly recommended.

Garden Birds Slim

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice quality, practical slim calendar - with 12 lovely garden bird photos, 6 Jan. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Garden Birds Slim (Calendar)
A very good quality calendar, and for less than £4. Slim but not too slim - and still with plenty of room for daily notes (dimensions are approx 15 x 42 cms). There is a very nice garden bird photo for each month - the birds featured are Great tit, Wood pigeon, Chaffinch, Fieldfare, Dunnock, Blue tit (perched among pink blossoms for June), House sparrow, Starling (those clumsy characters of the bird world), Blackbird, Robin, Bullfinch and Goldfinch.

Saturdays and Sundays are highlighted with a faint band of colour - different for each month - to make them stand out a bit - always a useful feature. Important dates, both UK and International, are clearly but unobtrusively shown. The print and paper quality (non-shiny so it's easy to write on) are very good - as is the clarity and colour reproduction for the 12 lovely photos (rather like having the birds inside, not just in the garden !) Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars A beautiful botanical illustration for every week of the year - great quality - and very practical, 6 Jan. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: RHS DESK DIARY 2015 (Hardcover)
These RHS Desk Diaries are really lovely, well-made and practical - and the print quality and colour reproduction is excellent. They are a nice A5 size with a week-to-view, and there is a gorgeous, uplifting flower painting on the opposite page for every week of the year. Very good value too, costing less than £10 inclusive of p+p.

The paintings this time are mostly derived from 6 major 'floras' of the 18th and 19th centuries, and feature a wide variety of plants from around the world, including from exotic locations such as the Himalayas - plus there are some even earlier 17th century Dutch ones.

The diary pages are clearly laid out and are not cluttered with extraneous text - but they still unobtrusively show important dates and, something else that I like to have, phases of the moon. The inner covers and the ribbon page marker are a very nice shade of lavender, matching the illustration on the front cover.

I have had one of these RHS diaries 5 of the last 6 years - they also make a great gift - and they are a joy to use throughout the year.

4.0 out of 5 stars The best/softest eco-friendly toilet paper I have so far found - and no chemicals = no more itch !!, 21 Aug. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I've been looking around for some time for some decent, soft and non-scratchy, preferably eco-friendly, loo paper - produced without the harsh chemicals that can cause nasty skin irritations. There is no chlorine involved in the production of this toilet paper, and it contains no dyes - both of these can give me an itch from hell... I had been concerned that there might still be some residues of chlorine and other chemicals in the recycled paper - but I'm very happy to say that this toilet paper has given me no itch and no irritation - what a relief! :-)

One side is slightly embossed/'quilted' - and it is SO much softer and altogether nicer than any of the other recycled/'eco' toilet paper I've tried, either from a supermarket, healthstore or online. It is single-ply but quite strong - you do need one or two more sheets at a time, compared with the usual 2-ply chemical-tainted stuff.. so, it's a fact that each roll certainly won't last as long.. Anyway I have no complaints about the quality - I may even go for the more cost-effective pack of 5 x 9 rolls next time.

One reviewer commented that it was a bit grey/off white and 'crunchy' - however the rolls that I received are really soft and a very nice clean white - so maybe it depends on where the paper for recycling has been sourced, it could possibly vary a bit between batches? Either that, or this seemed like bliss to me compared with the other products I've tried..! [I'm currently using those up by having 2 rolls on the go at once, with the scratchy stuff on the inside of a 'wad' - can't believe I'm writing about this! - and this lovely soft paper on the outside !!]

A bit naughty about the very large cardboard inner roll - it gives the illusion that there is much more paper on it - and, as others have pointed out, the extra bulk increases transport costs etc - hence 4 stars rather than 5.

To see lots more reviews for this product - most of them very positive

5.0 out of 5 stars Stunning photos of the Lake District through the seasons - a great gift!, 17 Aug. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I have sent Colin Baxter calendars to quite a few people over the years, and the recipients are always delighted with them as the photography is superb - he has a remarkable knack of capturing clarity of light and moods of the weather, among rugged yet beautiful scenery - and the photos on his calendars always seem a bit "different" from the usual picture postcard fare.

His Lake District calendar is always popular with two elderly relatives, who know the area well and love to be reminded of happy times spent up there...

The photos chosen for this 2015 calendar showcase the beauty of the Lake District through all the seasons - there are many rugged mountain vistas, with lakes and tarns, some with fabulous reflections in the water - whilst one or two offer more tranquil lakeside views - plus there's one of Wordsworth's cottage, Rydal Mount - and another of the Castlerigg Stone Circle near Keswick - so, there is plenty of variety there.

There are some small layout variations this time too - most months have the one photo, but the year starts with 4 wintry scenes for January - and there are 2 photos each for April and July. The days and dates are clearly shown (and it is helpful that Saturday and Sunday are together rather than split) - there is also plenty of space to write in for each day. Phases of the moon are unobtrusively shown, along with important dates, both UK and selected international ones. The paper and print quality are of a high standard too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent quality, comfortable to use retractable red ball pen - great for proofreading and for teachers, 16 Aug. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I think these Paper Mate "Flexgrip" Ball Pens are great value and excellent quality - and they are so much better than any others in the same price range - in fact they are THE only ones I will use, for any writing task, large or small, since I first discovered them several years ago - nothing else will do!

The red is nice and bright - a good pen for teachers to use and also ideal for making proofreading marks.

There is quite a range of "Flexgrip" pens - I much prefer the medium point, and retractable rather than capped. They look quite stylish, and are all so comfortable to use, due to their smooth shape and the slightly 'rubberised' and ridged 'grip' - making them ideal for all writing tasks.

The end result is always good because the pens write so smoothly, and the ink comes out more evenly than with any other pen I have ever used - also the writing rarely smudges, and never in my experience has any of those nasty blot-marks and splodges that other ball pens can produce.

The single red pen was just right for my purposes (e.g. occasional proofreading) - it also helped a Free Super Saver order reach the £10 threshold! - but note that the red medium point are currently available (August 2014) in a pack of 12 at £12.45 - great for teachers!

(I also find the medium point blue and black are good general purpose pens - they are available in very cost-effective multi-packs of 5 - working out at much less than £1 each - or 12, current cost about £13).
