The Con Man (87th Precinct)

4.0 out of 5 stars Another 87th winner, 28 Oct. 2013

I have been a fan for many years of the 87th precinct series and this is very much up to standard. One feels part of the life of the precinct and those who live and work there. Any fan of police procedurals will be happy with this.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great series, 28 Oct. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is one of the better series dealing with stories from the Roman period and the characters seem alive and keep ones attention as does the story which flows well and makes this a very good read. Not quite 5 star but I do not rate many this high. Recommended read.

3.0 out of 5 stars Readable but..., 28 Oct. 2013

I am a great fan of the 87th Precinct series but this, as I knew when I bought it, is not part of that series and falls rather flat. Very readable but one ends up thinking so what. Disappointing.

3.0 out of 5 stars Period piece, 14 Mar. 2012
This contains plenty of material which is very readable provided you can relate to the period - which I feel I can. On the whole the stories are excellent and avoid the complications typical in much more modern literature. The concept was quite daring at the time and is still outside the norm and it is interesting finding oneself relating to a criminal rather than a detective. Strongly recommended for flights and the like where a not very challenging (or long) read is needed.

Clash of Empires: The Great Siege: The Great Siege (Clash of Empires 1)

3.0 out of 5 stars Not History, 14 Mar. 2012
I had thought that this was an historical record so my approach to it was wrong. Having said that it started well but became rather far fetched quite quickly with the hero performing feats that would not have been possible and this spoiled it for me. I would read any sequel in the understanding that it is fiction and the hope that it keeps within bounds of reality.
