3.0 out of 5 stars Good Scope but Skywatcher is better value, 21 Sept. 2012
I had the opportunity to try one of these telescopes out recently. It is nicely portable and like most Maksutov designs it produces high magnification with a focal ration of 13. This makes it particularly suited to planetary viewing and also for splitting double stars. It's less well suited to deep space objects due to the same high focal ratio as the views tend to be a bit too narrow for some of the larger DSO objects. The smallish aperture for this price bracket means that you're not going to get a huge amount of surface detail on planets (you will on the moon) but as a portable and easy to use scope, it fulfills its remit will with nice crisp images.

The big catch for me is that Skywatcher Skymax 102 does all of these things equally well and is much cheaper.

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent first telescope, 11 Aug. 2012
I've recently had the opportunity to try one of these telescopes at the astronomy club. I didn't have any particular expectations of the scope but the optics on it are very good and were able to observe more detail than I expected. For a 70mm Refractor, both Jupiter and Saturn resolved well and the lunar surface was beautifully presented. The telescope takes standard fit 1.25" eyepieces so expansion is no problem if you want to buy plossl eyepieces, camera adapters or barlows. The lenses supplied are Kellner types which are better than the Huygen jobs usually shipped with scopes but you might want to invest in a plossl or two to get the best from the optics. The EQ mount is sturdy too and holds the scope well.

An excellent first scope.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Ultimate Portable Spotting Scope?, 6 Aug. 2012
Being quite into my walking and wildlife watching, I had been using a set of 10x50 binoculars and for more serious viewing my Celestron Ultima 65 however, the binos didn't really provide the zoom required and the image wasn't all it could be whilst the spotting scope although very portable still took up a heck of a lot of room in the rucksack. What I needed was something that packed a good viewing much whilst being very portable so I had a punt on these and i haven't been disappointed.

First off, the optics on Voyager are good, very very good. The image quality is miles ahead of the binos and not noticably inferior to the Ultima despite the smaller aperture. It is small enough so that even on the 25x zoom a tripod isn't necessary (although there is a mount hole for one) and it has really made my binos and the Ultima a bit redundant since it takes up even less room in the ruckie than the binos. The only downside was the the focus ring was a little stiff to begin with but thas loosended up nicely.

The quality of construction is also very good and it has survived all kinds of drops and bumps over the last 3 months.

You get what you pay for and this superb little scope is worth every penny.

5.0 out of 5 stars A joy to own and use, 14 Jun. 2012
This is a great camcorder. Very very easy to use and capable of producing some truly excellent results. The battery life on mine has been excellent so far and transferring videos to the PC could not be easier. The 60Gb HDD provides heaps of storage so although the camcorder is capable of taking Micro SD cards, I haven't found the need to use this facility.

Not much to complain about, especially at the price.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gets you up and running fast., 7 Jun. 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
First up this book is not an 'under the hood book' so if you're a techie looking for long and indepth descriptions of the finer points of Server 2008 or Exchange then this isn't for you. This book is aimed at people and businesses who do not have the luxury of a dedicated IT Administrator and need to get up and running as quickly and as fuss free as possible. This book hits these objectives very effectively. It focusses on the important aspects of each of the subjects covered and keeps the waffle and side issues to the absolute minimum. I think that this very very important in a book of this type. I have seen too many books which can confuse someone who is new to SBS with overly long descriptions of subjects which are of little importance and/or are unlikely to ever be used.

It certainly worked for me. A functioning network in less than 2 days can't be bad.

3.0 out of 5 stars Okay but not as good as the original., 12 May 2012
This movie has been pretty roundly slated which is unfair to a certain extent. I think part of the problem is that, if like me you bought it hoping to re-capture the excitement of the 1980's version then you will be dissapointed. Those were days that will never be properly recaptured simply because special effects have just gotten too clever. That bar was never going to be reached, especially since the performance of the original was pretty finite.

Having said that, Sam Worthington is a really bad choice for the lead. The boy's just not got the charisma to carry off this kind of film and this goes for a lot of actors of his genre. I was also pretty dissapointed with the Kraken too, again maybe expectations of seeing an updated version of the 80's one rather than something completely different.

Buy it for what it is and it is an okay movie.

5.0 out of 5 stars Top Notch Super Mag APO Barlow Lens, 11 May 2012
This is actually a GSO Revelation Astro manufactured Barlow and is a quality item. It is fully multicoated and to be honest at a 5x magnification the quality of the optics really have to be spot on as this sort of magnification level wouldn't suffer shoddy optics gladly. The Barlow is very solid metal construction and is beautifully made. It's a 3 element design rather than the more common 2. This works really well with my BST Explorer EPs and provides mega magnifications for planetary work, particularly web camming and photography.

5.0 out of 5 stars Light Weight and Very Good Quality Mirror, 28 April 2012
This Meade (although there's no branding on the diagonal itself) diagonal is largely plastic in construction but don't let that put you off. The mirror quality is very very good and gives a nice clear image on both my Skymax 127 Maksutov and also my widefield Star Travel 102 refractor. It's certainly miles better than than the ones that Skywatcher ship as standard with both of these scopes.

Highly recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Barlow for the money, 11 Mar. 2012
Not a bad Barlow lens for the money. It's pretty much all plastic construction and the cosmetic finish isn't brilliant so it gives the immediate impression of not being very good quality but actually it does a good job on the magnification front. As with all Barlows, the image does degrade a bit but it's no worse than some products costing a good bit more. If you've got a high end scope like an APO then you might be better spending more on an ED type Barlow but you'll need to get your piggy bank out for that.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great GOTO Mount, 6 Mar. 2012
An excellent computerised GOTO Mount with a very easy alignment process. I used to use this mount with 130mm reflector and it handled it with ease. I only sold it on because I had moved to a 200mm reflector which was just too big for the mount. This mount will handle reflectors up to 130mm mark (maybe a light 150 at a push), Maksutovs up to 130mm and Refractors up to about 100mm. It's also light and portable for easy transport.
