5.0 out of 5 stars Christoph Watz, Waltzed it while the others got Brahms and Lizst., 5 Dec 2013
This review is from: Carnage [DVD] (DVD)
"Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery" Winston Churchill. The clear message in this compelling film is that the parents are just as mentally disturbed as the children, no wonder their children turn out to be what they are, a reflection! I must say this reminds me of a memorable Laurel and Hardy 25 short film: "Me and My Pal". While the focus is on petty differences and everyone's curiousity over a jigsaw puzzle, Hardy's life collapses around him. The invited couple, make several attempts to leave, which is funny in itself. My opinion changed over which one's i liked, i changed sides, regularly. At first Christoph Waltz (Inglourious Basterds) who is brilliant in this appeared to be the less likeable character but that changed as each person lost it, and Waltz-Waltzed it, as the others became Brahms and Lizst. Winslet who i adore visually is at most a methodical actor (in my opinion) who spends each film in the vain attempt at "getting an oscar", trying too hard-you can tell she is acting, unfortunately. This is a fascinating film, engrossing, psychologically stimulating. Maybe, it would have been interesting if the sons got involved in the argument but that would have turned it into Carnage.

3.0 out of 5 stars Tense, stupid, clueless, overall, worth watching but, 5 Dec 2013
This review is from: The Purge [DVD] [2013] (DVD)
Yes. the premise of the plot is ridiculous, to be set in one house when it could have been expanded on. The film does throw up some serious messages about society, especially the middle class haves. It is a damning shame of this society that we live in - what people will do to protect their status or to preserve peace or to preserve a belief system based on fear. At best we live in an insane world when peace is defended with violence and poverty and austerity is condoned with lies and ignorance. It shows how much the worst of the ego is perpetuated by a failed money system and and uncaring democracy when only the rich and powerful get what they want. In this film, the mad masked gang represent the state, the media, the social services, the politicians, the black guy represents common sense with love and compassion. Overall, the film lacked logic but was tense and entertaining and thought provoking. The problem is that the majority of people will be fooled by this false premise that to kill will cleanse your soul and they will get fooled again by that telescreen with it's predictive programming and Orwellian propoganda. Violence only comes from within as a reaction to the environment we live in, it is no surprise the kind violence and hate, bullying and oppression that is inherent in a competitive, i'm alright jack, win at all costs system. Compassion, equality, respect, love, understanding, peace are the only things that matter. And finally, there is no need for possessions, why would you want to possess anything, that is evil right?

Normally, i do not do reviews, not my bag. This book is a fascinating insight into the world of the psychopath and how these creeps prey on our misery. Once you delve into Thomas's creative mind, you feel a craving for more info. You can gain from the experience of reading this book, and the knowledge you learn is imperative for future encounters with real-time Psychopaths in a Pyramid, God-Worshipping, materialistic dog eat dog world. You will learn so much from this thought-provoking, stimulating book. I had been following Mr Sheridan's work on youtube and firstly with his interviews online with my friend Mr Paul Vickers, i knew what to expect but it still blew me away. I regularly listen to Thomas's radio show The Velocity of Now and read his articles and admire his art, i sincerely recommend that you do the same, he and the book will not disappoint.I wanted more and i got it, Will you get it?!! Five Stars.
