5.0 out of 5 stars Beautifully balanced example of fine jazz, 17 Oct 2012
This review is from: Uplands (Audio CD)
The JEROEN PEK QUARTET plays original compositions mainly written by Jeroen himself. The roots of the repertoire are in the late hard-bop idiom in which the compositions are a vehicle for adventure and communication. This is intensified by the uncommon line-up with a flute in the frontline. The acoustic rhythm section is a very sensitive and alert unit that completes this extremely vivid quartet. The group contains three generations of Dutch Jazz musicians. This is very much a live band!
The album "Uplands" is a perfect example of their work.

JEROEN PEK is one of the very few jazz flute players from Holland. Besides his own projects he played with a great deal of the Dutch jazz scene like Michiel Borstlap, Eric Vloeimans, Pierre Courbois and Nueva Manteca. Internationally he tours in France, England, Germany, Belgium, Spain and Poland. With the Jeroen Pek Band he released two CDs. As a composer he has received honourable mentions three times in the composition competition of the Jazz composers Alliance in Boston (USA) and was in the top ten (190 competitors) of the composition competition of the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz in Washington (USA).

5.0 out of 5 stars Stunning, 24 Jun 2007
This review is from: The Story of You (Paperback)
An extraordinary book, impossible to put down. Julie Myerson writes with disturbing insight about the nuts and bolts of what makes or breaks a relationship. I had to re-read immediately upon finishing so as to be sure not to have missed the slightest bit of this fascinating novel.
