5.0 out of 5 stars Fine book about a magnificent bird, 16 Oct 2013
The goshawk is without doubt our most elusive and mysterious bird of prey - rarely seen apart from occasionally in spring when they display above our woods and forests. So it's great to have a book that digs deep into the details of its life, written by an author with far more persistence and dedication that I could ever muster. Like many modern nature books it is written in the 'present historic' - giving a vivid sense of the quest to encounter the goshawk. Some people find this hard going, but I believe it does, in the right hands, bring an immediacy to the writing - and if it's good enough for Hilary Mantel... Conor Jameson combines a fine writing style with a depth of knowledge and sense of place - I look forward to his next book!

5.0 out of 5 stars brilliant novel, 12 Sep 2013

Reread this after almost 30 years - as extraordinary as it was on first reading. Brilliant evocation of a tragedy played out through time and place in the strange, watery landscape of the Fens. Mesmerising and truly original.

This review is from: Life After Life (Kindle Edition)
A truly extraordinary book: the tale of one woman's life lived multiple times, with different but intersecting paths and different outcomes, creating a portrait of the 20th century seen from many angles, but always with the same viewpoint.

Excellent value bag - especially compared with expenseive £150+ flight cases - holds loads of stuff. Only concern would be if zips and fabric strong enough for rough use!

Me: The Authorised Biography
Me: The Authorised Biography

5.0 out of 5 stars Cider with Rosie updated, 15 Oct 2009
Byron Rogers' 'Me' is unlike any autiobiography I have ever read. By turning all the tools of his trade as a journalist and biographer on his most familiar subject (i.e. himself), Rogers has created a truly insightful, often very moving and extremely funny memoir. I esepcially loved the stuff about his early years growing up in Wales - a Cider with Rosie for the baby-boomer generation.
