1.0 out of 5 stars Celtic Thunder. Without the thunder - or anything celtic., 30 Aug 2011
This review is from: It's Entertainment (Audio CD)
This was my first experience with Celtic Thunder. I was expecting to hear a troupe of talented Irish singers belting out some rousing Celtic tunes. What I got was a bunch of terribly covered classic pop songs matched with awkward choreography supported by a karaoke-like backing band. The whole thing was very B-grade. Like a live band you'd expect to hear at the RSL on bingo night. The whole performance was painful and utterly disappointing. It definitely seemed like a few of the numbers had the singers lip-synching as well - check out that woman singing Just Like Jesse James.

However, the instrumental Irish jig with a couple of talented violinists and their rendition of Ireland's Call both sounded great - but due to previously mentioned awkward choreography, were still not great to watch. So at least it ended on a semi-good note. And I suppose I got a good laugh out of the general tackiness of the whole performance. It is clear that there is singing talent among Celtic Thunder - they just aren't suited to this type of music.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow...., 25 July 2011
This is one of the most beautiful soundtracks I have heard... *ever*. I can't think of any other score that flows so well from track to track and that. Out of 25 tracks 25 are excellent. There isn't a dud in an hour and ten minutes. An absolute masterpiece and an absolute must buy.

5.0 out of 5 stars An absolute must for anyone interested in Batman., 19 Jun 2011
I had heard a lot of good things about The Long Halloween before I made the purchase but it still turned out to be even better than I expected. The murder mystery plot is thoroughly engaging but the best part about TLH is the character development - with Two-Face's origin being the driving force behind the entire story. It is also cool to see how much influence this book had on the latest two movies - with a couple of scenes having been transposed to film almost identically.

At first, I was a bit thrown by Tim Sale's artwork as it's quite abstract. However, it did not take long to grow on me. Sale perfectly captures the dank cesspool that is Gotham City. In some full and double page frames I often spent minutes exploring all the tiny little details. This is the second of two "Absolute" editions that I have bought (the first being All-Star Superman) and it is well worth it. The Long Halloween is an epic (around 400 pages long) and lends itself excellently to the large format of the Absolute edition. This is essential reading to anyone who claims to be a fan of Batman or anyone who wants to learn more about Gotham's Dark Knight.
