3.0 out of 5 stars Hold tight!, 23 Sep 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Gripping indeed, but around the more sensitive parts of the body.
The fundamental plot is ingenious and fascinating.
However, as the cliff-edge action develops, (more edge than cliff-),brutality rears its particularly ugly head, and saturation seeps in.
An ingenious duet begins in parallel as two overlapping experiences of the key characters are developed, but in desperation to reach the end I confess I began to skip through the female's story (conveniently described in perpetual italics) as the inevitable climax approached.
An interesting experience but not to be taken on an empty stomach.

5.0 out of 5 stars Growth and Inequality - an Economic analysis., 14 Aug 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Without doubt a momentous publication in the field of Economics, and as significant as Karl Marx's "Das Kapital".

It has proved to be extremely popular with the chattering classes, but the vast majority apparently give up after the first few sections.

This is understandable because the results of the incredibly dedicated analysis and the revolutionary conclusions become clear early on; and the individual sections are more to be used as references, than studied in detail.

Thomas Piketty's charm and disarming manner (which can be studied on U-Tube, and other sources) is reflected in the excellent translation, but the Kindle edition fails to link conveniently and clearly the various charts and diagrams, and if true study is intended, I recommend the hardback, which I have now purchased.

Not exactly a holiday read the is an extremely provocative but logical approach which has yet to be effectively challenged.

5.0 out of 5 stars Werlcome to Coreene's World, 14 Aug 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
You need to be open minded, but once you accept the concept of Coreenes fantasy world, superimposed on ours, it's a great read.

Racy and fast-moving the introduction of the fascinating array of characters soon become familiar, but the twists in the plot are unpredictable and the outcomes suitably frustrating.

I have also read (and reviewed) the sequel and I guess we are in for a series.

Not a Drill: A Jack Reacher Short Story (Kindle Single)
Not a Drill: A Jack Reacher Short Story (Kindle Single)
Price: £1.49

5.0 out of 5 stars More of a novella, a good buy., 14 Aug 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Keeping us going till the next Reacher novel, this is a great cameo, with the usual twists and turns.

Subversive, it's almost politically challenging.

If McArthy was still alive Lee could find himself being accused of Unamerican activities!

4.0 out of 5 stars Not for the faint hearted, 14 Aug 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Following directly on from Fury of Ice this fantasy/romance novel will be succeeded by an avalanche of sequels no doubt.

I found it fascinating and easy reading, and is at least consistent in its esoteric erotica, more fiery than icy.

This review is from: Judge Surra (Kindle Edition)
A fascinating character.

Definitely a one-off, but with the usual excellent character portrayal by the author, with an appropriate dash of humour.

5.0 out of 5 stars You'll smile too!, 6 July 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Fully up to standard, with usual twists and turns.

Just how long can he keep going.

In this case I saw the TV version first, which is always very faithful to the written work, but you can't beat the subtlety of the narrative

which is excellently translated, with the usual amusing notes

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent hors d'oeuvre, 18 Jun 2014

Unusual but gripping glimpse of characters, well developed.

Have since moved on to full novels by this intriguing articulate author.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent product, real value for money, 18 Jun 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This product was purchased to replace a similar model (Trio) which, after a few years' intermittent use, collapsed (the main bolt sheared), whilst sitting on it in the Naval Museum in Constanta, Romania. (Sorry but I love to name drop.
After scanning Amazon I found this particular product which I ordered and was delivered (on a Sunday!) 48 hours after ordering.

The price (which has been reduced by £5 I noted today), was less than 50% of the original item, slightly lighter, and much easier to handle due to the excellent padded handle. As a walking aid it is fine but as a stable seat at an ideal height (easy to lower into and above all, to stand up from) it has no equal. I carry mine on to the aircraft (after a little persuasion and scanning due to its superficial similarity to an AK 47) and it is ideal if stuck in a queue prior to boarding the 'plane, to fend off queue jumpers and sit on.
