This review is from: Urban Quail-Keeping (Paperback)
Excellent book, very helpful. I read several books in preparation for my first attempts at quail keeping and this was easily the best, it is written in a very pleasant style and it was much more informative than the others. I think the information is comprehensive and complete and I now have a batch of very healthy and lively quail chicks.

Painful book. It is written in strange broken English and appears to be a sales promotion booklet for equipment in which to grow algae. This equipment is described on virtually every page but it is the same description over and over again, there is virtually no other practical information on growing algae in the book, I learnt pretty much nothing by reading the book.

This review is from: The Love Knot (Kindle Edition)
I came to the books of Elizabeth Chadwick because I'm fascinated by medieval history and the books are superbly well written and the underlying research is extraordinarily meticulous, As historical novels they are of the highest possible quality and definitely well worth reading, however that's just the starting point, there's something else about these books that makes them truly remarkable; and didactic and life-enhancing, and that is the author's depth of understanding of human nature which borders on the superhuman. I feel that lots of people who have no particular interest in history will greatly enjoy Elizabeth's books and feel enriched by reading them.

The calculator only goes up to 2013/14 so is useless. The fact that you have to pay for the Pro version means that it is just .a scam.

Wonderful book. I have read 8 or so books by Elizabeth Chadwick and they have all been extraordinarily good. Her historical knowledge, her superb writing ability, her powers of observation and attention to detail, and her deep understanding of human nature, leave me reeling in admiration. Her powers of empathy enable her to really get under the skin of these fascinating historical characters and protray them in such a way that you feel you have met them, and consequently the stories are completely absorbing.

Extraordinarily good book. I have read several books by Elizabeth Chadwick and they've all been brilliant. I am currently in the middle of "Lady of the English" and absolutely loving it. It's as absorbing as a thriller and full of fascinating historical detail. The writer has many talents and the glue which holds them all together is her deep understanding of human nature. A fantastic book.

1.0 out of 5 stars The only good thing about the book is that it describes itself ..., 16 Jun. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
The only good thing about the book is that it describes itself as a "Beginner's" book, because it certainly is. You would have to be from Mars not to have heard everything in the book many times. It also reflects common unthinking prejudices, eg that salt (our most essential nutrient) is bad for you, as is coffee (despite thousands of surveys indicating that coffee has truly remarkable health benefits) and it states that dairy (without any distinction between organic or non-organic, grass-fed or grain-fed) should be avoided at all costs (despite recent surveys indicating that diary contains many beneficial nutrients which, contrary to past misconceptions, are extremely good for the heart). The book purports to give you a diet for life and while the largely vegetarian diet described is a necessary and excellent base, it misses out many of the essential nutrients which are necessary for long-term good health, including supplementation with essential and trace minerals which are lacking from modern food, even organic food. To be fair the book says that the ideal diet "can" include meat and fish. I think that the diet described in the book, if it included regular consumption of oily fish (preferably small, low pollution fish like sardines) would be viable, if not ideal. The fish would provide nutrients which are absolutely essential to health, eg omega 3, Vitamin D, and, because fish come from seawater, a full range of essential and trace minerals. Following the diet without the inclusion of fish would leave you feeling permanently under par and subject to bone loss and osteoarthritis, and may other degenerative ailments.

I have long been interested in Edward 1st and have seen lots about him on TV and read a number of articles about him. Having read this book I now realise that the information I had previously received was clichéd and simplicistic, This book is based on massive and extensive study of the contemporary chronicles and gives a wonderfully detailed picture of Edward and the medieval world in which he lived, both of which are fascinatingly different from what I had expected. Absolutely wonderful book, I love would to read any number of historical books of this superb quality.
